Sennheiser gsx 1000 thread?

are these still worth getting or have they been superseded by anything. I own a set of HD599 so am good to go with this device if its still valid. My needs may be different to others though as i also want something for movies as well as gaming.

Don't watch movies, main use for me is gaming and I wouldn't change these for anything else on the market at this moment.

Give it a try buy from somewhere that does decent returns.

I purchased the GSX 1000 this week and I must say I'm very underwhelmed by it so far.

I use Audio Technica AD700 headphones and find the GSX's 7.1 mode to not be an improvement over stereo 2.0 via my motherboard for positional audio.

My headphones are generally considered one of the best for positional audio in games due to the large sound stage so perhaps worse headphones may benefit from it but personally I can't see any reason to use a GSX in my case, if anything it makes it a bit harder to tell the distance from an enemy.

I was testing in counter strike global offense on an audio testing map (you can turn on various noises like footsteps in a static location and freely walk around to test positional audio). I have the gsx set up in windows to use 7.1 and also enabled 5.1 in the cs settings.

I'll test it some more tomorrow with other newer games and update my post with my thoughts, perhaps cs only allowing you to use 5.1 isn't a fair test. I'll install Overwatch, I believe that allows 7.1. If anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to tell me to try something out!

Oh one thing I have to say is what the hell is up with that gaming mode on the GSX, it sounds so awful I had to laugh. :D I think it sounds by far the best on the regular sound mode with none of the other extra options enabled personally.

Try newer titles, I found CSGO surround sound to not be all that good, to be honest, it really never has been. Like @Rroff said also try HRTF is disabled or that will conflict with the GSX.

I use Philips fidelio x2 with my GSX1000 and still loving the quality of the surround sound.

Each to their own I guess when it comes to audio. It's always a topic open for debate.

@Joey1988 with headphones you should use the full range.

Windows set to 7.1 and for me, I have only 7.1 selected on the unit. I don't use any of the presets.

Give Apex Legends a try one of the best games out for surround sound.
Csgo isn't a good game for surround sound, the game itself is designed to be stereo with surround sound added on later.

Give a game like witcher 3 or something

Here is a video I recorded showcasing apex legends excellent audio quality.
Do note: my microphone quality at times is a bit poor recording software issue.

Edit
One more thing, make sure Windows Spatial sound is disabled!

Another excellent tool I use is the Dolby True HD 7.1 test video, make sure you use VLC player.

Thats strange, my GSX is paired with a Cloud Alpha and in Hunt Showdown where sound is really important similar to the above two games I hear everything I need it sounds amazing and the positioning is spot on

This is my experience also. They really isn't a game so far that hasn't impressed me.

Csgo definitely isn't a benchmark game for surround sound though. I personally wouldn't judge the gsx based on that game.

Do any owners know if there have been any firmware updates to this that are worth installing?

I'm still liking mine, the surround sound is great and the ease of switching between speakers and headphones is what i was after.

Since owning my unit from release I have had one firmware update.

Do you have to download that yourself? Did it change anything?

I remember your videos from back when I was considering buying this, helped my decision. You still play Siege?

I don't, stopped playing that awhile back. I had to manually update it via Sennheiser firmware updater
Scroll down and download Firmware Update Tool

I can't say I honestly noticed any difference with my unit.

This is the latest version for the GSX sadly I do not have a download for the file.

Hi all,

I really need your help. My GSX 1000 has lost functionality. After a computer crash I went in to check sound settings and it was on stero, so i tried changing to 7.1 surround in the configure speakers area but it says 'format not supported by this device'.

I try to test 7.1 and it says device is being used by another application, i click continue and it says 'failed to play test tone'.

I've tried restarts, I've downloaded the updater, and updated the firmware but still having the issue.

You are running the device in HD 2.0 mode you need to change the sample rate to 48hz in the properties.

Hello All! I recently got the GSX 100 and cant decide between the game one and the gsp 500. Does anyone have any insight? I also wanted to ask what the latest firmware number was for the gsx 1000. My version is .844 but there is a new one that says .808? Can someone please confirm which is the current?

Thanks!

5.23.37.0.808
Is the latest version given by the updater software.

What is you full version number?

5.23.37.0.844 and I cant check the box next to the gsx 1000 to update. When I run check for updates it says Im running the most current version.

I do believe that is the latest and was at one time offered by the software updater and then pulled for some unknown reason. Do you have a release log link by any chance?

How do I find that?

Do you see a link like this? Release Notes

Guys I have another question. If I am running in 7.1 mode on the gsx 1000. Do I turn off 7.1 in the game I’m playing settings? Thanks in advance!

No if the game has the option for surround sound enable it.
If the game has a headphone virtual surround like CSGO disable it.

Most games don't have an option and will just use what window setting is set to.

So Shankly, after using DT770 and a Sennheiser Game One headset with my GSX 1000 since 2017 when I bought it, I've picked up the Philips Fidelio X2HR in a recent sale for £100 and they arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to trying them out and see if the soundstage is improved/different. They're highly recommended by Zeos so I've gone for them even though i really should stop spending money on PC related stuff!!

Am really interested in reading your feedback on the X2
I feel the Fidelio X1 or X2 is the perfect match for the GSX but I can not be 100% sure because I not tried all headphones.

Hey guys,
Just got the gsx 1000 and it improved my game one sound quality a lot.
Just wondering if I have to turn the Dolby Atmos or Windows sonic off or not.
I want to use the best 7.1 experience in game.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Definitely switch them off.

For best experience, set the device in Windows to 7.1, on the gsx make sure it's set to 7.1
In games if they is an option for audio set it to surround sound etc

I’ve got gsx 1200 coming Tuesday got it for £80 fully boxed like new.
I have a Sounblaster z that I’ve had for years running through modi 3 Magni 3+ stack.
Going to use the Magni 3+ with the gsx1200 to power my dt990’s and see how the surround compares the SBX.

Let us know how the double amping goes. When I tried connecting the GSX to the onboard audio of my motherboard for recording only purpose I was getting some unwanted buzzing sound.

Comparing the GSX to the Soundblaster Z for surround sound only GSX to my ears is the clear winner.
