Sensible V6 for less than 2k?

Going to look at a 323 tonight, bit older than I want really, but at least it should give me a feel for the car.

170bhp, but same torque as 328 (give or take couple of lb/ft)

Sorry, should have been more clear, Mazda 323 2.0 V6, 147bhp, and a lovely car, just not quite big enough, and nowhere near fast enough! :(

Still on the lookout for decent BMW's though, not many in my area.

ignore all of the above ( unless it spec's this car coz i cant be arsed to read through all the " buy a mondao v6 " comments from fox) what you need is a nice alfa 156v6 you can pick them up for sensible money, and so long as they have a nice stamped service book and regular cam belt change there as safe as houses........

some observations

vw corado v6 great car truly a classic however for 2k its sha**ed , there very expensive to insure for what they are dur to astranomical parts cost
servacing is a joke... to change the plugs takes hours as half of them are in accessable and that alone costs arround 400 quid in labor

v6 mondao ( mundano ) if ever there was a more boring car..... poxy euro box from ford

v6 citroen .... erm enough said

v6 mitsi gto cracking car lovley sound to it, cheap enough to buy but your totaly stuck when the lectrics pack up wich they will do sooner or later....

so there you have it alfa v6 all the way ( p.s ignore the h8ers! )

A V6 156 estate (sportwagon?) for 'sensible money' i.e. the OP's £2-3k? There might be plenty of the saloons but I thought the estate wasn't introduced until later - that's what I was getting at.

Love the Alfa's, mate who's an ex Rover salesman's now an Alfa salesman/manager, so could get a decent one through him, but without a hatch, it's totally impractical! :(

As Safe as a house made from cards!

My brother in law's Alfa 156 was bought from new, serviced by a dealer and it was an utter disaster.

electrical issues (lights that would switch off for no good reason was a bad one!)

4 Starter Motors.

Oil leak's.

He got rid of it @ 14months old and changed it for an E46 3 Series.

therefore ALL alfas are plums?? no ill accept that there are the odd one or two wrong uns out there but im sure youll hear plenty of horror storyies about other marks as well

for the record im on alfa no2 ive done over 80k in alfas without so much as a cough!

TLDR whole thread but I'd look at a Mondy V6.

Great value for money if you find a good 'un.

I'd throw a complete outsider into the fray and say dont discount the straight 6's as well as others have mentioned and say look at a Vx Carlton GSi.

3.0 24v's can be had for silly money now, but they are fraught with dangers when buying pretty much because there aint many good ones left.

Spotted a few recently on that well known online auction site, but you really need to know what you are looking at to get a good one.

204 Bhp for pocket money, but I know its not what you are looking for, its a saloon for a start, so I'll shut up now....lol.

/waits for Foxy to say "lol at Carltons......" :p

*EDIT* That Mondy ST does indeed look very nice. Good luck with the purchase.

I'd recommend the mazda 323f 2.0l V6. 147bhp, only 1150kg and a low center of mavity.

Mazda_323_V6.jpg

Designed by Porsche and tested on the Nurbergring.

I only have the 1.8 four pot (nearly 170k miles) but it handles wornderfully and is fairly brisk. Plus it's a Mazda so should never go wrong!
