What sequels are better than their originals?

I'll throw three in to start off with.

The Wrath of Khan was better than The Motion Picture
Terminator 2: Judgement Day was better than The Terminator
The Godfather: Part II was better than The Godfather

What others?
 
I prefer Aliens over the original alien, but big props to the original

the dark knight considered a sequel ? if so i would put it up there
 
I wouldn't say either Aliens or Terminator 2 are better than the first...as good as certainly but no better or worse. They both do what a good sequel should do, expand on the story without being derivative and add new elements to the story without taking anything away from what came before.

I totally agree with ST:WOK, Mad Max 2, The Dark Knight, ESB but they're 'easy wins', don't agree with many others posted so far.

The Mission Impossible sequels seem to get better as they go along, I think they've peaked and will struggle to beat MI: Fallout though.
