Serenity.

You can't say "watch the series first"; a feature film should be able to stand on it's own and in that respect it was pants.

I haven't watched Firefly, and after seeing Serenity I have absolutely no desire to. It was as hammy as Starship Troopers except with Serenity the cast didn't actually realise it and play it tongue in cheek.

No offence to those who enjoyed it, but to me Serenity seems like Sci-fi "lite" for people who've never read any, the Buffy converts who like the science watered down and the campness turned to 11.

I thought the film was great fun, and i'd never seen the series. However great it is still not fit to even lick the boot of the original Star Wars trilogy... to even suggest so would be heresy. In fact, people have been burned at the stake for MUCH less than that. Utterly preposterous... laughable even.

The thing is, the first 3 (most recent 3) SW movies are pants, whereas both Firefly and Serenity are awesome.

If you were to compare SW 4-6 against FF+Serenity, then I'd be on the fence.

Serenity was awful, a real yawner, poorly scripted, badly acted, tedious plot and banal characters.

Buffy and Angel were both just mindless teenage drivel as well, in the same category as Mutant X and Hollyoaks, etc.

I'd rather watch any single episode of BSG than sit through Serenity again.

How's the air up there in your saddle?

I tried Fifefly after a few people recommended it and it never really got my attention; the same Wheldon formula in space. Entertaining maybe, but very little depth to it. Doubtless I will be jumped on for this, but I find all his stuff immature, although I suppose I am not in his "target demographic".

There is no way it is better than Star Wars, which granted Lucas has ruined somewhat by making the last three films. That said I'm not a massive Star Wars fan either, I'd put Bladerunner and 2001 above both Serenity and Star Wars.

I liked Serenity and Firefly, however I much preferred Star Wars.

If the latest BSG mini-series was to be classed as a film, it would knock the pants off of Serenity :p

There really needs to be a BSG feature film - I've watched seasons one and two, fantastic Si-Fi.

Enjoyed Serenity/Firefly but one major failing - it's a reasonable assumption that planets habitable to humans would have some indigineous (sp) life-forms of their own. However the only "fauna" are humans and the Earth species they brought with them, no alien creatures not even simple life forms. Even the Reavers, which are a bit of an enigma in Firefly, are revealed to be mutated humans in Serenity. Maybe they just didn't have the budget and wanted to avoid the Star Trek/Babylon 5 "man in rubber prosthetic" syndrome...

The large majority of planets were only habitable via terra-forming, before that they were just large rocks.

I don't think Serenity was as good as say Blade Runner or Pitch black etc, I can't see it as being anything other than a basic entertaining low budget flick. Part of what puts me off a bit is the clown of a Captain. It's OK but it's not great.

My opinion is that Alien is the greatest sci-fi flick

Can't argue with that mate, the original Alien is just a sheer masterclass in suspense. I recently invested in the 9-disc quadrology and watched them all through again.

BTW, you seen the new storage in Guild Wars yet? Four times as much if you own all the campaigns.
