Serenity.

How's the air up there in your saddle?
That's my opinion, nothing more. Watch what you like for all I care.

I do intend to watch Firefly and then give Serenity a second chance after what other people have said.

tis a very good film, when i first saw the trailer for the film and found out it was based on a series i watched them through and was looking forward to the film so much more when it came, Great film.

I've just watched through Firefly for the second time and still love it as much as ever. Can't put my finger on what it is that makes it so good the the characters are just fantastic. Very entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny sometimes too. It's the ONLY TV series I've ever watched through a second time...i just wish they'd carry it on - the story could be taken SO much further and I'm desperate to watch more of these characters on screen - if they leave it much longer i don't think they'd be able to have the cast return.

Watching Serenity tonight.

Exactly. There's just something about Firefly that makes me love it so much, but I can't explain what it is.

I think it's because I actually find the characters engaging and care about what happens to them.

Same thing happened with me and Rome, and is slowly starting to happen after finishing the 1st season of BSG. :)

I enjoyed it because despite it being sci-fi, the characters were totally believable with characters showing human like emotions rather than the cliched 'lets just save the universe' *pigeon chest* you typically see.

It's a brilliant film on its own, even better if you're a fan of the series.

I've not yet watched the series but I thought that Serenity was great and it worried me a bit before watching it because normally when something is that built up it disappoints - Serenity didn't disappoint on any level. Not the greatest film of all time, that is fair enough but it is certainly one of the better sci-fi films.

Serenity was reasonable, then I watched Firefly, which was awesome. The original Star Wars was always a kind of western in space, but Firefly took that concept to the next level.

Is Firefly/Serenity better than the original Star Wars trilogy? Hell no, but it is better than the current commercial entity that bore witness to the terrible episodes 1, 2 and 3 (3 wasn't too bad I suppose).

No offence to those who enjoyed it, but to me Serenity seems like Sci-fi "lite" for people who've never read any

If you really read science fiction, then you'd know that the abbreviation "sci-fi" (memorably rendered as "skiffy" by Harlan Ellison) is NEVER used by proper SF fans - or writers for that matter. It is "SF" or "Science Fiction", never sci-fi. As soon as someone uses the expression sci-fi, you know they know nothing about the subject. And if you don't know who Harlan Ellison is without googling/wikipediaing for it, then you've just proved my point.

But back to the original question. Serenity is rather poor. But Star Wars (all of them) are terrible. The original is a pantomime - which George Lucas admitted before release, but hastily recanted after it became popular. Not only is it a bad film, it is very bad science fiction.

Just watched Serenity again. Bloody ace it is too. Strange watching it so soon after the TV series; the jump from TV to cinema is quite evident - big budget, big cast, big special effects; the part where they lead out the Reavers to the Alliance is superb!

Again though - I want more!!

I love Serenity, my favourite film of the past few years. Its a different style of space film to Star Wars, which made a really refreshing change to me, plus the humour is brilliant.

Compared to Empire, no not better, compared to the new 3 though, way better

Absolutely brilliant, actually lived up to all my hopes after firefly. Whedon has some of the most dedicated fans in the world and Im happy to count myself amongst them :)

Wow, just watched firefly after reading this thread, its superb, but now i'm in the same dilemma as most other people who've watched it i guess, i want more!

Empire Strikes Back > A New Hope > Serenity > Return of the Jedi > Revenge of the Sith > Attack of the Clones > The Phantom Menace.
