Hi there

Got 2 x Raptors 74gb running in Stripe Mode and have done for about 18 months with no problems.

However, been noticing a bit of a slow down recently and in the Raid Bios on bootup I noticed it said on one of the drives:

Error Occured (0)

I ran a few tests, unplugged cables, checked power and everything is fine. However done a HD Tune this morning and the transfer rates have squandered badly to:

Minimum - 2.6 MB Sec
Max - 16.5 MB Sec

Average 6.7 MB

Access time 16.9
Burst Rate 20.8

No idea, can anyone help?

OK I uninstalled the Raid Drive in System settings and let Windows reinstall the drive again. Got improved drive transfer rate but I think the minimums are way too slow.

Minimum
1.9 Mb/Sec

Max
104.2MB/Sec

Average 8.7 ms

Burst Rate
99.0 MB/Sec

CPU Usage
38.6%

Any ideas?

Check in Device Manager to make sure neither of the SATA controllers is running in PIO mode - 38%CPU suggests one might be.

Is either of the drives making any kind of odd noises?

It'll be worth running the WD diagnostics but that may require breaking the array to allow each drive to be recognised individually.

No, no funny noises, I backed up my PC - dont have much installed on it anyway and basically disbanded the array and started all over again. The raptors now dont have any errors in the raid bios but I gotta install Vista again which I am now having problems with as the comp wont boot up from CD for some reason - what a day.
