Prestwich is a dump.

It'll be on bricks by New Year :p

edit... Oops, done it again. I should really read things properly, shouldn't I.

There was a honda civic in usa that did a million, he was a salesman and changed the oil very regularly. 10 years it took if I remember right but thats still 384miles every working day, dam :o

For some reason the idea of running a car up to realy high mileage appeals to me,

So far my Peugoet 205 1.8 TD has done 206500 miles :)

Surprised a car lasted a million miles without being destroyed by chavs in Prestwich.

Thats 'cos he had the good sence to emigrate. ;)

Saab - The car variant of the Scania, miles is nothing to them.

I know that my 1980 Saab 900 GLE must have had close to that on it. A salesman sold it to me and it read 366,000 on the clock. And he'd been driving it for over 4 years with a broken speedometer cable on it!! Said he got so he could tell exactly how fast he was going by road noise, wind noise, engine revs, etc so never bothered to change the cable out.

Sounds like the joys of driving in a speed camera free place! Lucky chap!

Do you guys not have a roadworthiness test? Speedo is mandatory over here, you wouldnt pass the yearly MOT without it.

Nope they don't... awesomeness. Whish we had a very lax test. It's just stupid nowadays.

Thats a load of crap! (well, from my recent experience!)

My Girlfriends Xantia flew its MOT recently with a speedo that reads whatever it feels like! - I suppose, its difficult for the MOT tester to check if the things actually working.

:dunno: A friend had a car fail for a broken speedometer, although if you are saying it doesnt matter perhaps it was simply an advisory. Either that or your tester saw it moving, and didnt look any further.

:dunno either:

Thing is, how would the tester see any speed register on the speedo when the cars static in the test bay?

The only rollers it went on were of the brake testing variety.
