Server 2003

Have you got physical access to the box, any errors displayed onscreen? Network switch/port working ok, no problem with its network cable?

daft question, is it still on as we had a client who had a problem and it wasnt until they checked and the power cable had come out of the box.

aye im not completely daft lol. doesnt seem to be any switch problems or network cable etc. no errors at all. browsing to it has slowed right down and running multimedia from it is just taking forever

To check for network performance, log total packets, erroneous packets, and in/out bound packets. Should give you a good overview of your traffic, but it may not be necessarily network related.

think ive solved it. thanks for the help.

i recently downgraded a domain server to a member server, for some reason after i swithced that off the problems went away. anyone any idea why it would be slowing the network down so much.

its still part of the AD but i didnt think it would matter?

if the domain controller had dhcp and dns on it and the server was trying to use dns and dhcp on that domain server (as it was still there) rather than using its alternate dhcp and dns servers this could cause slow downs
