Today's news is brought to you by the websites All Project Stats and BOINCstats.

Run SETI on a GPU? Add your SETI username to this thread to be included in future news posts as a GPU user. Also add your name to the same thread if you’ve stopped running the GPU client so I can take you off the list.

Berkeley seemed to have a bit of a blip earlier this week, which accounts for the reduced numbers compared to last week.

I've added a colour scheme to the main stats to make it easier to see positive and negative changes. Green indicates a positive change, grey negative.

I'm using a new stats site for the milestones, as for the second week running my regular source reckons we didn't have any… if I’ve missed anyone off, give me a shout and I'll add you manually.

As always, congrats to the tiffy winners! Don’t forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant urls to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum :)

Agreed that red text does look a bit iffy on the blue background, so I've changed it to grey. Let me know if that's any better :)

I'll admit that the combined stats don't do owt for me either, and because of the way milkyway@home seemingly issues a gazillion credits for GPU clients the combined stats are somewhat skewed for users running it.

I do miss SETI being a standalone project. I'll also agree with you that it was more exciting from a competitive point of view: earning one credit per WU, and stashing for ages and then letting it all go was more interesting and prompted more of a reaction from your team mates than BOINC projects ever have.

That said, I think BOINC is a really good idea - it certainly makes it so much easier for managing numerous projects simultaneously. If every project ran under its own steam then running more than a couple of them suddenly becomes a burden and could quickly get tiresome, as they'd all need to be managed independently of one another and you'd need to set aside more time to ensure they run when you want them to - and setting them up to run at certain times via scheduled tasks is beyond the scope of most computer users. I know some people bemoan BOINC's ability of managing multiple projects - it might not run as effectively as they'd like - but generally I think it does a good job of it.

Connecting the H50 fan to the CPU fan header should be ok. From my experience you definitely need to have a fan connected to the CPU fan header - otherwise the PC doesn't boot (and even though most BIOSes give you an option to disable that feature, from what I've found it doesn't work...).

Not sure about daisy-chaining fans and connecting them to one fan header on the motherboard, as each header has a maximum amperage/wattage that they can safely supply - going beyond that risks damaging the header (at best?). If the combined amperage/wattage of the connected fans is less than the fan header on the motherboard can supply, it should be ok.
