A warm welcome to our new team members Sarah - Bazso - Sy - Mel - Tom, if there is anything you need help with just post your question in the news thread and someone will be along to help sharpish.
Be sure to check the team ocuk website link below to see if your crunching efforts have earned you a prized tiffy fit for display in this very thread and if your about to overtake someone in the stats issue them a stomp warning to get there attention!

Apologies for the lack of news the last few weeks its back on track now and will continue as normal on a weekly basis, i might be able to maintain 50,000 per day but something "unexpected" has turned up and i am forced to part with a rig :(

When compiling the news from a template i inadvertantly omitted the credit to Halz for creation of the graphics used in the news have put that right.

Your welcome Mr dekez sah :)

Afternoon CaptainUnlikely, now why would you deny yourself something like new pc hardware the urge will allways win in the end may as well dooooooooitttttt now :)

You got me there! I'm lacking industry sources nowadays heh.
I just know there's supposed to be another card released with better compute performance, because as good as the 680 is for gaming, it's not quite as impressive in folding or crunching, so I'll be holding out for the next model.

Thank you for the news TTB. Think I might print this out to remember being at the #1 spot for RAC... before Loudbob stomps me into the floor :D

How is your 580 rig coming along?

Sorry keep forgetting sah :o It'll certainly be interesting whatever comes ... and expensive :)

Your welcome Dave, main thing is you got up there once you can do it anytime at will now :)
The 580 rig .... i ...errrr .... its on its way out:o Had something unexpected come up so its going to have to go to raise funds :(:)

Ahh - that old chesnut, fight all you want, you will lose. too many people on here have tried and lost.
There was a very serious outbreak of upgraditus a couple of years back when Toxic first came here, he had a chronic infection that spread like wildfire and ended up costing quite a few of us a tidy sum as we all succumbed ;)
those were the days toxic, feverish they were!

Ta for the news mate - glad to see ya back

Feel like a ninety year old sat on a park bench :) aye was expensive but damn it was fun ... am taking another side step this week Mr Edge sah ... but am working on something amazing that could come into being in the next 3 weeks to a month .... chances look good and all me digits are crossed ;)

Thanks TT. :)

Turns out my bro cancelled my boinc account on the second pc at my mum's so I'm an official member of the single pc league now. :)

I used to wonder how you guys manage to get such huge RAC numbers... now I'm guessing it's usually multiple PC's? I've been running my 2500k and 7970 flat out for over a week or so and my RAC is still only around 4900.

Wonder how long it will take to reach it's peak, or maybe it already has?

And I wonder if I was going to buy a rig geared towards Seti... which graphics cards would give the best ppd/watt. From what little tidbits I gather by lurking here I guess it sounds like GTX 580s are the current one to watch?

Good to have the news back, well done Mr TTB.

.....

I believe the answer to your question will be found on this page..
http://www.boinc-wiki.info/RAC

but generally if you are producing more daily than your RAC, it will continue to rise.

Thanks TT. :)

And I wonder if I was going to buy a rig geared towards Seti... which graphics cards would give the best ppd/watt. From what little tidbits I gather by lurking here I guess it sounds like GTX 580s are the current one to watch?

Right now, the best S@H output for a single GPU is from the 580s. However, the Lunatics crowd will produce an optimised version of the app' that makes better use of the 680 architecture - but that is likely to be a slow process.

Thanks kolala and Area_51. :)

I think I have now found the sweet spot for the app_info.xml running SETI on my 7970:

When I have it set to default (running just 1 task on the GPU) it uses about 30% of the GPU power, and seems to scale linearly from there, so I currently have it set to run 3 instances per device, each using 33% of the GPU... this seems to keep it at a nice round 90%... leaving me 10 for browsing/watching media etc.

This is with the card at a mild overclock of just 1050MHz core and 1420MHz Memory... will see how it goes over the next few days. :)

Here's the actual app_info I'm using: It's just the one lunatics configured, except i've replaced the "-instances_per_device 1" with "-instances_per_device 3" and of course <count>1</count> with <count>0.33</count>.

Cheers for the news TBag.......a grand job as always :D

With regards to the 680's - it's been slow going but it's nearly complete ;)

Pretty sure it won't win any medals for cooling performance - but I still think you'll be proud of me.

Me thinks I've got a few good photo's to show off - but I'm waiting till its up'n'running before I publish :D

It certainly is worth the wait :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice to see I'm managing to hold second spot without the 680's tho :D

But......depending on the compute performance on the upcoming Keplers it may have been an engineering excercise only.........only time will tell.

All connected up - running pressure/leak test.......

One fitting leaking on bottom GPU........

:(

Luckily - I have spares
