setting up 770gtx (psu question)

Recently got a 770gtx (Palit 2gb), and I have currently got it set up as follows:
Two 6pin connectors and the small connector (2 pin connector?) I have basically covered up all the holes (the gpu came with a single 6 pin connector into 2x 6 pin connector cable, should I use this instead? I just don't want to fill my case with unnecessary wires)
I'm just wondering if I've set it up correctly? I mean the gpu is running fine, but I can't remember using the small 2 pin connector when I set up my brothers msi 770 last year.

Anyway I hope this isn't too confusing, I'm just trying to get a better understanding on powering gpus.

Use the direct power cables from the PSU, put the cables which come with the GPU back in the box and forget about them.

My thoughts are.....
It is better to share the GPU load over two supply cables, than to use the splitter on one cable.
It shares the load across two outputs from the PSU...which if my memory and brain cells are still functioning correctly, means smoother voltages under all GPU current draw conditions. :D

Okay thanks! Atm I have 2x 6 pin from the same psu cable connected. And yea, The splitter that came with the gpu looks dodgy lol

As regards the 6 + 8 pin connections vs the 2 x 6 pin connections some manufacturers use the additional 2 pins to allow more power to the cards for better overclocking. At the risk of confusing you further I would check the 12v provision of the PSU particularly whether it has a single or multiple 12v rail(s) as I believe with multiple rails you would be better off using 2 separate leads from the PSU but with a single rail it won't matter. If the card is running OK though I wouldn't worry too much.

Ok thanks everyone for the complete answers! It's running fine atm, and from what you guys have said it seems I have it set up correctly, even if I overclock it :D
