Settle This Debate

They're both oddly wrong and right. If they're trying to get you to login to a Windows active directory kind of system then your username will be domain\username (backslash) which is what they tell you to do. But then they seem to get confused and instruct you to use / (forwardslash) which as far as I'm aware wouldn't work that way.

So I think you're right all along.

I could understand 1st line support getting it wrong, over 15 years they get so much wrong but the Manager got involved and told me it was by the question mark :)

Oh and the big problem is my NHS laptop, at 19:48 it still isn't connecting via the NHS VPN to the network.
Everybody went off around 11am but slowly people started to log on except me but there must be others.
This is when I rang and they said to logon to www.uhnm.nhs.uk and sign in to the Intranet.
This is where the ad\ wasn't working but it didn't need it.
They said to check the IMT page for updates and there hasn't been any since 3pm :)

For the tech minded, if my home internet wasn't working I obviously wouldn't get the above page but once logged in to my laptop I can't even go to Google.
My NHS VPN won't connect :(

I knew it was the NHS with the AD\, I had friends that work in the NHS :)

you sure your account is working correctly? try logging into your webmail to test it, it's normally independent from all other sytems apart from exchange and active directory itself. I think office online has been setup for NHS staff now, might be worth trying that too.

I'm no IT guy but logically back and forward are obvious. Writing forwards you go right, on keyboard they lean outwards and pivot from the base.

But if wasn't for the example given previously, "sea collon backslash" where i learnt it, then i'd refer to my logic above. But if this was wrong, i'd just give up, accept defeat, and still continue to say it wrong :D

I've put a post on our Facebook page and there's loads of staff with the same problem.
I can login to the Intranet and I can get my emails on my phone.
Hopefully be OK in the morning.

Forward Slash: /
Back slash: \

NB: The forward slash (AKA the slash) is an actual part of English punctuation, the back slash is just a reversed slash used exclusively in computing (mainly for programming).
