Has anyone here experienced Sexsomnia?

For those unaware it is sexual activity in the night whilst sleeping, supposed to happen whilst your brain is transitioning between sleep phases, something goes wrong causing a part of your brain to wake up and the rest of it to stay asleep.

It's happened to me three times, I'll wake up in the middle of having sex and be quite confused, with no memory of initiating anything. Fortunately my girlfriend is very receptive and doesn't mind, afterwards we both laugh about it.

From a bit of research this doesn't seem to be a very widespread condition, but I'm interested to hear from anyone else.

Sounds like some a rapist would claim to have.

But no never heard of it before, can imagine it must be very disorientating. Is it something which can be diagnosed?

It is a recognised sleep disorder and has been studied, if it was a problem then you could see your doctor for treatment. Presumably if it was bad enough you'd be referred to a sleep study clinic.

And yes, very disorientating. The first time it happened, upon waking up I was incredibly confused, I had no idea what was going on. Now I just go with it.

Yes, usually when I'm stressed.

I also wake up midway through, which is really trippy. Don't really remember all that much about it either

I've had this happen a few time but have woken up half way through... Had to finish, can't just stop ;)

Isn't Julian Assange being hunted down on two continents for something like this? you'd better head for the Venezuelan Embassy before the internet police find this thread.

sounds like a good excuse for rape...

classify it as a mental condition... then again everything else seems to be classified as one these days

Lol?
So does your wife or gf just happy go with it?

Mine would be like "**** off I'm sleeping"

Yeah she's cool with it, it doesn't happen regularly and when it does she doesn't mind and thinks it's funny.
The trouble is, if it did happen to you, then your partner would have to do more than tell you to stop. She'd have to hit you until you wake up or something. When it happens it's as though I'm just acting on a primal instinct.

The condition has been used as a defence in court before, and I can fully understand it happening. If you have no control and aren't aware of your actions then what could you do to prevent it?
