haven't played SFIV online hardly at all, but I gave it a blast over the weekend...

one thing I noticed (and I only played about 5 games as Akuma) was that it seemed to have stuck me on a handicap? i was fighting ryu in one match and his attacks were doing a fair bit more damage than mine

is there some sort of auto handicap maybe cuz i use Akuma or something that? (not that that should make a difference)

I believe Akuma takes more damage than the other characters.

It may have to do with his moves being as powerful as they are.

I'm sure someone will confirm or deny this.

ahh cool great link :) very interesting :)

still think i'm going to stick with akuma for a while i just find him great to use and find the ultra combo really accessible on a pad... plus he looks like a right badass :D

don't know as anyone else finds this but i think on a control pad some stuff such as ryu's ultra is just really tricky if you're on the right of the screen? also charge moves seems quite tricky on a pad? with akuma i seem to be able to pull everything off without any hassle so maybe thats why i like him.

On a pad Ryu's ultra is incredibly easy, it's actually much harder on a stick.

Charge moves are harder on a pad though as you have no easy way to do things like: DB, UB, DB, DF, DB, DF for Balrogs Headbut -> Ultra

Sure Akuma's ultra is great, powerful and godlike AND awesome.

BUT

It has GOT to be one of the easiest ones to stop from being pulled off!!

Ryu on the other hand I personally believe has a great balance, his abilities hp pool etc are a lot more even.

If you find it hard pulling off special moves on the right side then it just means you need more practice. I've played Street Fighter for (random guess here) maybe 15 years, ever since I was a kid and SF4 was so different for me! The moves etc were all the same, but it felt different. It actually put me off the game for months until I decided to play again over the weekend and get all the characters.

To me it "feels" different, everything else is the same. I use to feel over confident playing this, almost like I could beat anyone now with SF4 I feel very very average, even though I know every single move and ability, I just get beaten quite a lot by the CPU.

took me an incredibly long time to get the hang of the moves on the pad, just stick at it, it'll click eventually

I am the opposite.. I struggle on the left hand side. As a child I played most of these beat em ups in arcades where it is just a case of pressing 1P or 2P. I always picked 2P. On home conversions I struggle as only some SF series games have offered the option to play as 2P.

When I have to do Ryu's Ultra from 1P side, My hands swap sides on the joystick (right hand moves to the stick and left hand to the buttons). Only really an issue for me with QCF/QCB Half circle type moves. Most matches I play with my mate are spent with me trying to jump over to the right hand side for the first half of the round :)

It's because it's finally online so you actually get to see just how good the average players are (no decent one's really play online), the same thing happened with Mario Kart and people just realise how little they knew about the game (knowing all the special moves is a 1 hour job) and how bad they really were at it.

It is true that AI doesn't compare to real players at all Kreeeee but i do feel that playing offline is a different experience to online. One of my computer-gaming friends finally visited Kingston this weekend and we fired up SF4 (which he has been playing quite a bit of too), we were both commenting on how much better we were offline; i was FADCing perfectly, something i rarely manage online. After about 20 matches of pretty even play we decided to try taking turns online, both of us were messing up our FADCs and being hit by cheesy reversals that would never have happened offline.

Unfortunately this an issue that won't be overcome any time soon though, a reaction fighter like SF4 is obviously going to be affected greatly by latency.

I'm close to selling my stick now because trying to do some of Sagats links online is just acting to get uppercutted by an SRK spamming ****.

I'd have sold it last week probably if I didn't have an issue with paypal/my main bank account atm.

Er... I've always completely agreed with that sentiment!

Ok cool, i did wonder. Your previous statement seemed to say 'playing online just shows you how people are better than you' whereas i now see it as 'playing online gives you the ability to play better people'. I completely agree with the latter, sadly it also means you end up losing to DP spamming scrubs if you try and play rushdown which is basically the only way i like to play.

You got it :)

I wouldnt say that was the problem, I haven't even tried to play online due to the fact I need to figure out the mechanics properly, which to be honest doesn't get me excited it feels like a chore since it doesn't have the appeal to me than all the previous ones.

Back when I was playing on the Super Nintendo there was no counter/parry up to Alpha on the Playstation, parry was an awesome feature that got me excited when you pull it off excellently. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7cW2nMf1gk for an awesome example.

In Alpha you could parry, that was easy to learn and a cool feature. But around this time Tekken came about and I got heavily into that.

With SF4 It is a lot different from the original (By far!) and the Alpha series.

Some friends I know say it is a great game, so do lots on here so I probably need to give it more of a chance.
