I want to get an external drive to share between my HTPC and my PS3.
Would like to leave this permantly plugged into the two, without the hassle of swapping cables everytime i want to switch between the two.

I have seen drives which have both usb and firewire ports. As my pc has firewire i was wondering if i could have the external drive plugged into the HTPC via firewire and the PS3 via usb 2.0. Would this work?

Is there any other way to share the drive maybe via usb 2.0 hub?

I know i could use a NAS but am finding shunting large files and multimedia over 54mbps wireless especially when other things are using the network painfully slow and of no use for HD material

cheers

If you trawl through the forum there was a thread on this not so long back. Not sure what the outcome was though.

the chances of it working are very slim. maybe a cheap KVM on your desk to switch usb between the devices when you need to would be a good alternative?
