Shark Attack - your thoughts?

What are your thoughts on this? I think it's wrong that the shark should be killed. It's the risk you take swimming where these great beasts live.

A hunt is under way off the coast of Western Australia for a Great White shark which killed a US diver.

Nothing newIt hunted a human, we hunt it. Nothing new and nothing wrong with it.

Killing isn't the only way of protecting. You can use prison. We also have far more intelligence and of course a society, so no.
If you talking self defence then of course.

The reason they do it is becauase ordinarily sharks do not attack humans and pose no risk. Therefore one that has decided that perhaps it will attack people remains a risk.

There's also other ways of 'protecting your own' from animals, in this particular case not swimming in shark infested waters.

Why would we stop swimming in water. It's Not just shark territory, it's also ours.

They don't kill to protect territory. They do it because they one day decide they like the idea of it, and this is what makes shark attacks:

a) VERY rare
b) At high risk of repeat unless the Shark is found.

Theres no point in arguing this, a better discussion would be if we should slap the Chinese...for eating shark fins.

Because they only eat the fin? Or because of shark population.

If its the former, most people in England only eat "prime" cuts of meat.

You go into their domain, which isn't natively ours.

Expect trouble.

The shark only attacks if hungry or feels threatened. Either of which could be applied to this scenario.

Oh & in reference to [TW]Fox's reply. A lot of animals can be considered a risk & can kill. By that token should be kill everything that is a risk?

Dogs can kill, yes even pets as they have natural instincts. Should we kill all dogs 'cos they're a risk to us?

It is our natural territory as well.

We aren't killing all sharks, we are hunting the one which caused the problems.
Same way we put dogs down that bite humans.

or because they cut the fin off then throw the shark back in the water to slowly die...
