Shaver Recommendations?

Before I went beardy I used to have a cheap 3-head electric one (probably about £60 but I can't remember). They take a bit of getting used to, but they give a pretty good shave. I wouldn't abandon it after 1 attempt, anyway. If it feels like it's pulling the hairs out rather than cutting them, as you say, then you're probably just moving it too fast.

What is the best starter kit with these? Blades and the actual razor.

I first purchased their travel safety razor, which comes with a pouch and one single razor blade. It was better than the Wilkinson Sword one I had been using, weightier in the hand and so on. However it was a bit on the small side.

I got one of these two months ago: http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/acatalog/Merkur_Rake_Edge_Safety_Razor_3812_.html#a1590

As for the blades, any will do. You'll find puritans saying that only Merkur's own blades or brand x blades are the best, but tbh I didn't notice any difference going from Merkur's own to the £2.50 packs of 10 from Boots. Lasted about the same too. I'm sure you can get 'em cheaper off the net in bulk though.

Well I bought this from Argos yesterday used it and its total crap. Problem is now that I have used it I doubt I can’t take it back as its a hygiene issue I would imagine. Seems like that’s £50 down the drain :(

I would not give up on it yet. Even though you used an electric before, it is still a different type of cutting movement and your skin will need to condition itself to the razor.
