Shaving help

I am bemused at the fact that Weatherspoons requires something like this . Maybe if you're a manager (in which case i apologise now if you are :)).

Back on topic, i actually found that electric shaving made my spots worse and as soon as i went to wet shaving (Mach 3) they disappeared pretty quickly :).

Now using King of Shaves menthol gel with Mach 3 Power and find that combo pretty good as i havent got particularly fast growing facial hair (natural blonde has its perks :))

I'd rather someone with some facial hair served me in the pub, than someone with spots and ingrown hairs.

Exactly. I have this problem, and haven't been clean shaven for 3 years now and my confidence has grown, and I've felt more confortable with my appearance.

How can having some facial hair shorter than a few millimetres make the establishment fail some test? Wtf, men grow beards because it's natural, and it's more hygenic than being clean shaven imo due to increased chance of infection with shaving.

I just use a disposable razor, i need to shave every week cos i can grow a full on beard easily within 2 weeks.

A girlfriend I had some years back was a hairdresser and liked to give me a shave now and again. She always used a hot flannel to "open the pores, soften the hair and make you sweat to help with lubrication."

Maybe the hot towel trick is worth trying if you have problems with spots.

Our Wetherspoons always had the policy of either having a beard, or being clean shaven. The only thing they didn't like was teenage style scruffy patchyness, or general lazy stubble. If you actually had a decent beard and kept it looking neat, it wasn't an issue at all.

Come to think of it, I'm fairly sure that must still be policy, as I still see people working with beards in Spoons in 3 different cities. I'd tell you to stick up for yourself, but it being Wetherspoons, they'd just find a reason to get rid of you anyway :p

I thought that you couldnt be forced to be clean shaven at any job in the UK, with the equal rights stuff.
It's just down to company policy. My work has a pretty strict clean shaven or proper beard policy, no stubble or unshaven looks are allowed. Saying that though I only bother to shave once a week or so and I've never been told I need to shave more often. If you're being told to get clean shaven at work it's just easier to do it and live with it than battle against it, you never win.

Am I the only one who never bothers with shaving foam / gel? I just use hot water, it feels much much nicer than shaving with gel / foam, I get less irritation from it.

If you get spots try using an oil instead of gel/foam. As mentioned before make sure your cutting with the grain not against it...

Either use a wilkinsons sword or DE with feather blade... don't waste time with Gillette.

Generally its a good idea to shave after showering as a few minutes soaking in warm water can make a huge amount of difference to how easy the shave is and how good a shave you get.

Finish up with cold water rather than hot to wipe the detrius away, then use an aftershave or moisturiser.
