Shenmue 3 is now a thing

The goal is probably just a gauge for external investors to decide whether or not there is a possible consumer interest in this title. Same thing happened with Bloodstains. People obviously want this game :D Glad it's funded though, but 2017 :(

Yeah, I feel the same, but I would rather they take their time and get it right.

In the mean time they should get another kick starter for getting Shenmue 1 and 2 Remaster to PC.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Shenmue was an awful game.

Remember the bit where you got a day job in a warehouse and had to work shifts driving a forklift?

One thing I'm slightly concerned about is how they're going to handle the story. Wasn't it originally planned to have 6 games worth of story? Even if this is a huge success, I can't really see it having enough steam to fully revive the franchise to fund a Shenmue 4 and beyond, so outside of somehow continuing it through other means (comics or whatever), I'm a bit worried that the story is going to be forced short.

I'm sure every single game has at least one section which is bad or annoying, but one bad section in game hardly makes the entire series bad. It's one of the most immersive games I've ever played, and the attention to detail was unreal. Shenmue 2 in particular had insane scale for its time; I'd say it even stands up today.

You forgot to say "in your opinion", as many people obviously feel differently. That said, I won't argue with you, nostalgia is a part of it, but to call it an awful game? :o:D

Oh and I enjoyed the forklift section at the time, not like it was for ages. Short part of the game.

Funny how contemporary reviews raved about it. It had slow sections, that was it's nature.

How many zillion random encounters do the average JRPG have? Is that not a grind fest? I though the forklift sections were a nice change of pace IMO.

One think that I am glad of is that this is a continuation, not a remake of the first two episodes. I just hope they don't bow to today's game conventions and stay true to the formula

Yes, I love that part of the game. Millions of fans would disagree with you. Shenmue series is one of memory's and all the fun I had playing. Shenmue is a AMAZING GAME!

$2.3m donated in less than 24 hours.

$4.5m is the magic number to create the game in its entirety.

Looks like it, I hope they do keep the last stretch goal as 4.5mil and not start making up new stretch goals. The rest of the funds should be just for polishing the game up and bug fixing etc.

Awesome been waiting for this forever! I hope that in game footage gets worked on a bit though! those facial animations are horrible and that english voice acting is worse than Shenmue I and II! Thr gfx dont look bad though, At least it cant be downgraded!
