Sheva=flop?

On the subject of Arsenal strikers, I was mightily miffed about Van Persie's wonder goal, Drogba was a shoe-in for goal of the month, but now he's going to miss out because of what is clearly going to be goal of the season.

Fantastic goal but I doubt it will be goal of the season.

Unless something very special comes along it will, like Di Canio's volley was a few years back.

di canio's was better though, had more technique to it. Van persie's goal was good but he just seemed to throw himself at the ball a little hoping he'd connect, di canio knew what he was doing during every stage of his goal.

No, form is temporary but class is permanent.

To tell the truth, I think the above post sums it up perfectly, Sheva is pure class and will start hitting the net pretty soon, which will be a bad sign for the rest of us.

tbh I think a lot of players have struggled since coming back from the world cup - the ones who were injured before/there more so..

Even players like Henry have struggled until very recently.

Shevchenko has not had luck on his side so far and imo he's been a yard off the pace - but seems to get better every game he plays :)

I cant wait until later on this year when he should be firing on all cylinders :)

Teams like Milan dont carry bad players for years. So imho there is no doubting Shevas class. However players good or bad do go through a period where their forms dips. Unfortnuately this may have come at the time when he has moved to Chelsea.

The article is quite good and out of all the points I would say that point four is propbably the most accurate in the respect that the tactics being used are a lot different from what he is used to at Milan. It will take him time to adapt. The other thing is that players like Henry & Bergkamp were players with big reputations and in some respects failed to deliver in Serie A. They had a lot to proove and they have done that in the Premiership. They found their natural stage and performed on it. It can be argued that Sheva has nothing else really to prove because of his consistently high performances in Serie A over a number of years

Everyone wants him to fail in the prem. He will come good, will just take time. Take Drogba for example... not such a blinding first season but really showing some top form of late.

He managed with Kyiv, im sure he'll manage at Cheslea without a Kaka/RuiCosta type. ;)

I personally think that once he hits his first goal or two, that he'll start scoring for fun like he did at Milan. If he doesnt, then it doesnt really matter imo. He has nothing to prove over here.

Dynamo Kiev had a totally different style of play to Chelsea though, their game was based largely around extremely fast breaking counter attacks.

As for Shevchenko having not anything to prove over here, I wouldn't go that far. He doesn't need to prove he is a great player, but he does need to prove to people that he can deliver in the Premiership.

No he doesnt. People over here want him to prove he can 'handle' it in the Premiership, but he has nothing to prove. He is a world class striker and regardless of how he does over here, he remains so. Legend at Kyiv, legend at Milan, Legend in Ukraine. What he does over here cant take away from the fact that he's arguably been one of the best strikers of the last 5-10years.
As for Kyivs playing style, yes they were a fast team, but that wasnt the point, the point was that he can manage without Kaka/RuiCosta behind him. As he did at Kyiv. And as he will at Chelsea.

Thats not a comparison, its someone bumming AC's midfielders.
No, its a valid point. Its not berating Chelsea midfield, its pointing out a difference in playing style.

Clearly at the moment Chelsea are not playing to Sheva's strengths. There's no doubt he is class though and it will tell eventually. All it will take is a while for him to adapt to Chelsea's style and for Chelsea to adapt to him and he'll be off and away.

Or second for that matter, but he's been unstopable so far this season.
