Shocking...

Sky news are reporting the the kids grandmother has been murdered and the grandfather seriously injured, with a 20 year old woman and 26 year old man arrested.

The implication is that the kids parents have attacked the grandparents.

Its getting more tragic by the day....

just as a sort of local to these areas (not the pub) i'd like to drop in that its the roughest of rough pubs in the roughest of areas in leicester.

now i dont know how or why they're linked, but word on the street is that they are

Yeah these areas are very rough Especially New Parks, I wouldnt go anywhere near that sort of area. Its a sad story though.

I heard it on the radio, so we have 2 dead humans, 1 injured and dead dog and 2 humans facing live in prision because they are ignorant towards animals.

What a waste of police time and money.

I only read that first page of the thread but id like to say, its not the dogs fault, its the dogs owners!!

I have had dogs of all breeds all my life, we have had trouble with 3 of them and thats its. Its not the breed of dog either, thats a load of tosh! Ive read information online before about the Dobermann for instance, everyone thinks of it as a great guard dog but many people dont know that they can be used in care homes for the elderly for company, they will walk at any pace the elderly person sets and is even aware if IV tubes etc.

We had a terrier for a week that went for my brother, was dog sitting it and it just snapped. A great dane that didnt like men, we have no idea why. A German Shep that for some reason lost its mind when my grandad died (it was his dog), wouldnt respond to anyone and just roamed around the garden all day.

My local garage had a young wrotty, such a lovely dog until last xmas when some idiot from a local factory came into the garage and started beating on the dog for no reason. She is now left at home as she is violent whenever at the garage!

Its the way they are brought up, the same as children!!

Two blokes at work are totally adamant that the breed of dog that is reported for biting the most are Labradors
Perhaps somebody can confirm or deny it with proof.

Another point that nobody has mentioned about dogs and kids is the fact that a dog that is already part of a family when a baby arrives is more likely to get jealous and attack.
A puppy that is bought into a family with kids is less likely to attack.

It all depends on the numbers of dogs in the country, i would imagine there is a much higher percentage of labs in the country than for instance pitbulls, so there would more than likely be more lab bites just due to the sheer number of them.

Comments like that are only useful if there are exactly the same number of each breed in order to compare them.

I cant believe they have killed there own mother and mother in law, its shocking its not the grandparents fault they where looking after the childrens PUB and they had these 2 BIG dogs, what a joke, those dog could have attacked the child any time.

Looking at this report spanning 20 years in the US on fatal deaths from dogs. Rottweiler's along with Pit Bulls do appear to have a breed specific problem, 60% of deaths in the study were down to those breeds alone. Interestingly dogs perceived to be vicious like Dobermans are nowhere near the most dangerous. If you look at the deaths from 93 to 98, 30 deaths from Rottweiler's compared to 1 from a Doberman and 2 from German Shepards.

Personally I think dogs should be licensed, a bad owner is a far great risk than the breed, with a few exceptions.

yes quite shocking news. has it been confirmed that the parents killed the grandparents?
Both BBC and Sky say that the murder of the grandparent is NOT connected to the death of the baby. What a shocking and devastating weekend for the family! :(.

The popularity of pit bulls and rottweilers -- muscular breeds often bred and trained for their fighting tendencies -- has often been cited as the main culprit.

In fact, studies show those breeds are to blame in about two-thirds of the fatal attacks during the past 20 years, and that percentage has been increasing. Male dogs that have not been neutered also are far more likely to be implicated in attacks than females and neutered males.

At the same time, however, veterinarians say that smaller dogs like little Marlowe are the ones most prone to fear-aggression and unpredictable biting behavior.

Of course, these attacks tend not to be as serious, but there are exceptions. Dachshunds have killed children, as has a Yorkshire terrier and Labrador retriever.

The table there is from the report I posted above. A point to consider is that dog number 12 on the list is the Labrador Retriever. Is there such thing as a safe breed, given the dog is big enough to be a threat? When i was a Kid I grew up with corgis, one of which would gladly have taken my arm off given half a chance. Conversely the most loving and tolerant dog I've know was a Doberman bitch.
