Short mini review of Acer Revo R3610

Yeah you really need a gigabit network to stream high bitrate files, 10/100 will be fine for itunes stuff or similar. Like you said a gigabit switch is an easy fix though.

Is the DXVA2 option definitely turned on in the XBMC settings? You can also set up XBMC to use MPCHC as an external video player but i can't find the tutorial sorry.

Oh and welcome to the forums!

Thx a Brazillion Goujon

;)Have my first born you just fixed problem 1, I did say i'd been distracted since first setting this thing up a year ago. Enabled DXVA in settings, never used to be there....
Anyone that has managed HD streaming with Homeplugs and their setup would be appreciated.

Although in my defense Cataclysim wasn't that bad a distraction for a few months... BTW although new to OcUK I have been linked, not romantically, to quite a few of your members through Guild Wars and WoW 'The Godless' for longer than I care to admit, Hi Az / Bongo.

I have already wondered about switching to a Giga ethernet switch instead of BT Home Hub but wondered if the Homeplugs would still bottleneck me at 10/100. 'Each D-Link DHP-307AV adaptor has an ethernet port - a 10/100Mbps LAN port to give it its Sunday name'

The more tech savvie might explain to me why these things are rated 200 Mbps but have 10/100 components?
I really want to stick with homeplugs as running ethernet cable in my old house has proved problematic for the electrician already.

Any thoughts on wheather adding the Giga ethernet switch to my setup above could push me over the required bitrate for HD content? Or is it pester sparky time...

Thx again Goujon and hi to all;)

Edit, updating to latest XBMC has fixed both my problems, Doh to moi

I bought one of these yesterday.
It was the Linux version, and I've had a few problems to say the least.

First I couldn't install the new nvidia drivers
The screen is not aligning correctly and I don't know why :(
Its a 1080p screen and its just not working

Bloody hell that camera shot from my Desire was awful :S

Oh hey guys I sorted out the problem, you were all right!
Now just awaiting my NAS and I'll be sorted!

Hi Guys just a quick question regarding audio (I don't understand this stuff)

My brother has seen my Revo and likes it a lot however he has a few questions.

1. if he plugs it in to his Amp via HDMI or optical will the Amp do the decoding or will the Revo do it?

2. Is the HDMI port 1.3?

Thanks for any answers!

There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice on these. Full HD doesn't play for some without stuttering, it plays absolutely fine for others for months on end, rock solidly.

I'm looking at a HTPC and this tempts me, how easy is it to get XBMC up and running?

It's simple to set it up, it really is.

Full HD I've had problems with but I think its due to my internet not the Revo.
If you want I can transfer a 1080i file onto the Revo and see if it plays properly.

I only have 720p rips and normal SD rips

I have had an r3610 for a few years now and its solid.
It's played everthing I've ever thrown at it from low quality dvd rips to full on 1080p BluRay dumps.
All through XBMC too.
It can be a little laggy or sluggish occasionaly running win7 but the linux live distro just works flawlessly once its setup right.

Setting up XBMC under Windows is a peice of cake.
Under Linux can take a bit of tinkering to get it 100% but its well worth it.

I think the problem is people say they run 1080p no problem others say it can't run without stuttering well 1080p is a resolution this isn't the problem it's the files being run a lot of people think 6gb 1080 is good no it's not that is low end. the revo isn't good enough to run high quality 1080p even with dxva enabled.

if your happy with bitrates for video up to 6000 the revo should be fine this really is 720p territory over that your going to start having issues which all quality 1080p rips should be way over that mark.

i've never not been able to play anythig on my ion as well, which is the same chip as the acer.

the only thing mine cant do is thigns like iPlayer HD without the beta version of flash

my files tend to be around bitrate 10000+ with filesizes 5-10GB (Tv Series)
