I'm sure the widow of pc Keith Palmer will be comforted by hearing she needs some perspective.

So what point are you making?

No one is saying that these deaths are not tragic, the point was made that we are numbed to atrocities that happen outside our backyards at times.

Seems that some people can only mourn for those of their own country and care little for the lives of foreigners...

That's such a weak argument, it was horrific and tragic and all those things of course it was but the whole reason that's a nonsensical argument is that if it were in the hands of the victims we'd have capital punishment for overtaking Audis.

Its just a really cheap way of trying to shut down a discussion.

people die all the time, of course someone is going to mourn if their husband dies rather than some random foreign people on TV

and of course people are going to be rather more concerned about events in this country that could directly affect them than events far away

I'm not trying to shut anything down, I was making a point that needing to have perspective isn't much help to a widow.

What about the US's and west's continued use of drone strikes when research has shown that up to 90% killed are not the intended target ???

Nearly 90 Percent Of People Killed In Recent Drone Strikes Were Not The Target
Source

It would be fair to argue that the continued use of drone strikes after knowing these figures is the US's and West's acknowledgement and acceptance of civilian deaths!
Not the intended target doesn't equal civilian.

Violence and actions in far away lands directly effects violence and actions at home, until people except this reality then we are never going to improve the situation, the vicious circle of violence and revenge will sadly continue.

Your perspective jibe is as much about her as anyone else who has suffered a loss, you can't say people need to get a perspective but you think she should be exempted.

Is that the reason we can discount the deaths of everyone but the ones that suit your argument?

Please. The death of any innocent is tragic, that was the point being made.

Keep digging lol! 1) It wasn't a jibe it was merely a comment and 2) it was about a specific post not about an individual

Not the intended target doesn't equal civilian.

What about newborn babies and children ?? Are they civilian enough for you?? or are you in the same mind-space as trump where family members of terrorists are guilty by association and therefore legitimate targets? (Which IS a war-crime btw)

Trump's Yemen raid killed civilians including newborn baby
Nawar al-Awlaki, the eight-year-old daughter of al-Qaeda preacher Anwar al-Awlaki, was previously reported to be among the dead. Her father, a US citizen, was killed in a 2011 drone strike under the Obama administration.

Reprieve said its evidence showed 23 civilian deaths in Yakla, including a newborn baby boy, and 10 children.

This guy was born in Britain, he went and attacked his fellow British citizens, and people here are some how linking an American bombing raid in Syria as justification(?). The people responsible for the American raid killing civilians were American high level military officials who gave the order, this is not linked in any way. The attacker didn't even claim it was. This attack to us has more relevance as it happened in our country where we live, just as it has less relevance to people living in Syria.

Who said the guy was motivated by that bombing?

It was a statement about perspective and the media.

That although tragic this nutter killed 4 people, it has received loads of media coverage and sparked a massive response, while other atrocities seem conveniently missed by the mass media and general public.

In no way does it disrespect the deaths of these victims, nor have anything to do with justification of the actions of terrorists.

I must have missed the bit where people are justifying this lunatics actions, because of a bombing in Syria that happened AFTER...

4 people die in a terror attack in London, the first 'mass casualty' attack for 12 years, and we literally have people in this thread saying we should do something about muslims!

Meanwhile 200 muslim civilians are bombed in Iraq 'by accident' and that doesn't even get it's own thread.

"Oh but that's a war caused by Muslim terrorists"

Not really, and those people were innocent, the same way that the people on the bridge were innocent. How do you think some of the families of those 200 people are going to feel about America now? See how the cycle of violence just carries on?

Indeed, unlike the Lee Rigby murderers we don't have him on video claiming it was the west's foreign policy which motivated him, however I think it's safe to say that the deaths of innocent Muslims in foreign lands certainly didn't encourage him to NOT commit the heinous murders

Split hairs all you want but with figures as high as 90% it's safe to say a significant number of completely innocent people who happen to be in or passing the wrong place at the wrong time are getting maimed and killed!!
Provide a source that shows what the percentage is. Otherwise your claims it's a 'significant percentage' are completely unfounded.
Yet again you're showing your inability to distinguish between statistics.
