GM: Unlike the press would have you believe, it wasn't very clever. I searched for blank passwords, I wrote a tiny Perl script that tied together other people's programs that search for blank passwords, so you could scan 65,000 machines in just over eight minutes.

Too many people in this thread shouting for extradition without knowing diddly squat about the case. If only it were all black and white what a wonderful world it would be.

The UK needs to grow a set and tell the US to go **** them selves. He should stay in the UK and serve no time, he did no damage and even warned them. He did them a service.

I would love to know why he has been denied by all his hearings, is he taking it up to the EU court?

Been there, done that, they want nothing to do with it either. S'all politics.

If this is the case I would just peace out of the country, go and live in australia.

Or he should arrange to meet with Obama and tell him the US is going to look even more a muppet if he is extradited.

Australia isn't the best place to be right now in regards to internet "crime" either. Apparently as much as I've heard about it, the Government is getting pretty involved in monitoring, censorship and such.

Does anyone know when theres going to be an actual verdict as to what happens? Or is it just going to get dragged out for years on end?

There's a pre-trial hearing or something set for the 20th of December, I think? It was the most recent post on that freegary site anyway.

Yeha but lets face it, saying someone is getting a 400 year sentence or something along those lines does come off as mildly retarded to say the least

ity;s not 400 years though is it it;s 70. And if he was American he may well have been charged with treason, and depending on the sate be facing death.

. Americans all jump for joy at the sound of it, rest of the worlds scratching its head. Saying "life" isn't good enough apparently.

iirc most of this forum are full of the "but life should mean life" and in favour of much harsher punishments than this governments can dish out. heck read half the threads here and the people want punishments that make Saudi aribias t look humane.

Live n a democracy and you risk being ruled by retards.

I praise that guy, a normal guy, such as us, managed to get pass the US fudging A's security and went through everything, bravo! I blames the country for having poor poor security, lame a'holes tbh, jeez if Gary could do it, imagine an army of hackers could do..Die Hard 4 anyone? I agree with some of the posts above, they should hire him and reinforce the security holes and such whachyamacallits!

70 Years for hacking, what have they been smoking? Murder gets less than that, manslaughter even less. If he had actually leaked information then maybe it would be a crime worthy of more than community service...
