Should I be able to ping a VM SuperHub in Modem only Mode

I've been on the phone to a VM Level 2 Tech and he informed me that I wouldn't be able to ping the IP address of a Super Hub in modem only mode (when plugged directly into a PC not via a router)

Can someone with more knowledge than I either test this or enlighten me if this is the case.

I'm using a Asus AC68U with Merlin software and the router firewall has been disabled but I'm still unable to ping my WAN ipaddress.

Cheers

It's in modem only mode and therefore it's not a 'hop', so there's nothing to ping.

Not being able to ping your WAN IP is a different issue though, that would be down to whatever the modem is plugged into not responding to ping.

Hmm, I thought you could always reach your modem using 192.168.100.1, but that might have only been for the older versions.

So if the modem (SuperHub 3 in modem only mode) is connected directly to the PC, and the firewall is disabled on the PC then it should respond to pings?

Like I said above, regardless of your network config or even your WAN IP, there is a management VLAN in your superhub, which I belive is on 192.168.100.1.

Also works as the web management page even in modem mode, so you can view line stats or change back to routed mode.

Thanks but that I know. I'm just trying to find out when I can't get ICMP working. This was working perfectly fine before the Super Hub 3 updated itself on Saturday.

I just need it to respond to an external ping. It works fine if I put it in router mode and disable the built in firewall, though the ipaddress does change from the one in modern only mode.

Run Wireshark on your PC, see if the ping packet is making it through the modem.

It shouldn't be messing with anything but who knows.
