Should i buy an XBOX 360?

Also this generation imo the games are far more adult themed than in previous generations.

lol, that does seem true, or perhaps it's just that I buy all the most violent games.

My Dad is constantly disgusted when he watches me play on my 360 - GoW: Chainsawing someone in half, Dead Rising: Tearing zombies intestines out with your bare hands, Ninja Gaiden II: Decapitation, limbs flying all over the place, GTA4: Running over innocent civilians..etc. It's pretty funny seeing his reaction. I especially liked his reaction to the babies overnight advert on the radio in GTA4 :D

true - I remember playing Nemesis the Warlock on the C64 when I was 7, chopped people in half in that with a sword. Also I remember a Barbarian fighting game on the c64 where you could decapitate your opponent and then a gremlin came along and dragged the head away?

Violent games are nothing new

I have both a PS3 and 360, and although the PS3 is the better console of the two (imo of course), I can give some answers to your questions:

What do people think about Elite or Arcade pack's?
I have a Premium from last year, but of the two you mention, the Elite is the only one with HDMI, as far as I know, it also comes with a 120gig hard drive.
What about waitin' for Blu-ray drives on the 360?
Is this confirmed, or just a rumour? If you want BR and gaming in one unit, the only option at the moment is a PS3, but you don’t get a massive choice of games – although it’s not too bad now imo.
Are they really that noisy (360's) generally?
Yes, as you are a PC Gamer, picture several Delta fans at full pelt, and that’s when it’s idle. Heck, it’s probably louder than the old GeForce FX :D At least mine, and the majority of owners find this, it’s even worse when the CD is spun.
Do the fan's fail?
The hardware design fails :p Seriously though, I think it was a little rushed to market so the older ones (new ones too?) are likely to eventually suffer from a RROD. Whether this is linked to fans or not, I have no idea, but the general consensus seems to be 'it's a cooling problem'.
What about the separate HD drive?
BR ‘won’ the new format wars, so I expect these can be had cheap, same goes for the films, but I very much doubt that you will see any more films released on this format. For me personally, I don’t see much benefit over DVD.
Whats a good price to pay for these consoles?
I’m guessing somewhere in the region of £200-£300+.
Being a PC gamer at heart, can i get a keyboard/mouse combo for a 360?
Not as far as I know, you can plug a USB keyboard in, but cannot use it for gaming, there was some third party bit of kit coming that allowed the use of mouse and k/b in-game though.

Scort.

from reading your first post, a ps3 seems like a better option for you.

you say 360 is cheaper though not by much because you want the elite, you say you want blu ray, you seem to be worried about the noise..

do you have an idea of what games you want?

Personally I'd go for a PS3, infact I did just that. I studied both systems for months before I made up my mind, playing on friends machines and reading articles. Now I wish I didn't bother and just bought one months ago.

The reason I picked a PS3? It's just a better machine in my opinion. Better controllers that are easier to recharge, Blu-ray, better media capabilities, better interface, vastly superior build quality, much quieter, looks sexier, easily upgradable hard drive that is actually useful, free online multiplayer without subscription, decent and free network/store service with ever-improving features that are quickly catching up to Live, built-in wireless, has folding at home, has a web browser... sure there is more.

As for games... it has an impressive list that now, imo, matches what the 360 has to offer. Yes, multi-platform games are often not as good, but this should improve as developers see sense, see Burnout Paradise for an example of this. It's exclusives are also a lot better than the 360's imo. MGS4, Uncharted and Resistance > Halo and GoW.

I'm not saying the 360 is bad, just saying I prefer the PS3! If you can afford both then get both and have the best of both worlds, if not I'd rather have a PS3. Which is just what I went for. It's worth every penny imo. :)

I'd defiantly wait until after E3 either way though.

Get a 360, I've had the PS3 over a year now and never had a reason to choose a game on that over the 360. (Although I may buy MGS4)

Blu-Ray I buy occasionally, although they're still expensive, I usually rent them from lovefilm. I also don't really use it as a media machine like I used too. Don't regret my purchase but if my 360 went bang I wouldn't hesitate buying another. May not be the same scenario for the PS3.

The newer 360s which are pretty much all of the ones being sold new now are a lot quieter, as they run cooler and, afaik, are not liable to end up knackered with RROD.

I have a 360 but will be buying a PS3 at somepoint when GT5 comes out!

Get the 360 first, then a PS3 later.
If you're looking at exclusives, til Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 there are only 2 exclusives that are really must haves; Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Both have great multi-format games though, but The Darkness is best on Xbox360, therefore get an Xbox360 :p.
