Should I change or not?

I get the impression that everyone is sometimes a bit too keen to start the next 'epic thread'. I mean we had people in here simply posting 'POSTING IN AN EPIC THREAD' when really it was unlikely to be epic - mildly amusing before we got down to business about cars perhaps but... epic?

You're right there is nothing epic about it.

Epic is when someone gets a bit of good advice or turned away from a monumental **** up.

Definatley an ST220 then. Especially as you enjoyed your previous Mondeo.

I'm sure none of the other stuff is malice. I doubt anyone knows you well enough to bear actual malice against somebody they've seen posting things on the internet, or at least I'd hope not! It's just people looking for some amusement, thats all. And of course it'll amuse some and not others :)

It didn't even click that the st could be had so cheap otherwise it would have been top of that list. Would probably prefer something a bit waftier but I could probably forgive it for that.

Malice was probably the wrong expression, but as you say it's mostly people having a laugh at my expense. I'm not bawwing about it, but I'm not really sure who benefits from it.

You can waft an ST220, just stick it in third and use the armrest!

To be fair there were times when the previous threads were hilarious (Mostly beause a lot of people said the Saab was a bad idea and then felt they were 'proved right' - although it is pretty lame people do love 'fail', hence the massive success of... all the 'fail' websites), but... aside from me having a bit of a smile when I noticed the Accord was being considered for the bin already there really isnt much in here that compares :p

Infact there has been rather a lot of car chat for a Motors thread

The i pad was the defining moment for me in that other thread :)

It's more the ride that bothered me with my old zetec-s so it's likely to bother me in the st too...

If I had been here saying I was bored of the accord or something then I'd probably deserve everything coming to me, but I'm amazed how many people miss the point of how significant going from doing 15k per year to maybe 3k might be. And how, as a car enthusiast, I might be interested in how to exploit that.

There's nothing epic in here. Epic is a 10k Clio, it's managing to buy every broken car on sale and generally being dodgy, it's protesting that a 90s Japanese saloon is better than any car ever. The completely random 'WTF!!!?' threads like petrol in a diesel bloke are epic, this just isn't. Oh, and avensis

No, I completely get that. If you:

a) Like cars
b) Will be doing 3k a year

The first thing I'd be doing is dropping that Accord (Despite suggesting you should keep it earlier. I'm consistent, right? lol). You have a huge opportunity here to have something with a ridiculous engine and not care about fuel costs. Low annual mileage is fantastic - its why I couldnt care less than I average 20mpg around town. It doesn't matter, because I don't do the miles for it to add up and when I do do the miles they are on the Motorway at 35mpg anyway.

I think though I'd be looking at ways to up the budget.

I never did beleive you when you said that petrolhead had gone ;)

As far as this thread and its drama goes, though, I would not be suprised if one of the 'isnt everyone in motors horrible' squad has tried to pour some more petrol on the dimming flames by the morning, though.

I could up it but I'd either have to wait or get a small loan. Not especially against either of those, but for the limited use it would get I dont think I'd want to spend more than, say 6k

Sod them fanning the flames, that's a good post there.

I cant see the point in waiting either, make hay while the sun shines.

If your mileage increases down the line, you have another change then same as you did into the Accord.

Bite the bullet, chop the accord and an extra few quid in.

Didn't you used to own a 156?

For the low mileage you may be doing in the future, 156 GTA SW?

Predictable suggestion from me, I know I know...but you may get examples around the 6k mark iirc.

The thought of a 156gta makes my man bits tingle, but I've been burned in the past when my old 156 let me down on several occasions. The car won't be used a lot but I need to know it's going to start when I need it

I definitely believe that thinking six months ahead is a good idea.

In the last 8 months, I've gone from being adamant that I was going to get a £7k loan to buy a 1 Series, to using all of my savings to get a Z4 and now I've settled on putting the money towards a house deposit and driving my girlfriend's Corsa.

Having time to think about things has really helped me and I'm so glad I didn't rush into purchasing the 1 Series (can you imagine)!

I like how my ST wafts, it's very comfy on a cruise (OK so the suspension means you feel the bumps a bit on rougher roads but you'll get that in any car short of an S-Class with air suspension), and the engine is lovely and smooth and torquey (perhaps not as torquey as some, but it's a world ahead of what I'm used to) and yet it revs beautifully when you want to give it some welly .. It's a real dual-personality car, I love it and it's the perfect "everyday" car for me. I'm over the moon with it. Economy on a long trip is good. Bit crap in town (like all cars of a similar ilk really) but I don't care, being able to accelerate in a silky smooth fashion from near idle speeds in any gear is great.

But I wouldn't want a 4.5k one. And it's nowhere near as much of a hoot to blast around in a "fun" fashion as my MX5. Nor would I want an ST TDCI ;)

You're welcome to come and poke around my ST if you're ever in my neck of the woods.

It's that, or if you do want to waft then you spend a bit less on something older like a 7 series and keep some cash aside for when it breaks, or maybe a Lexus LS/GS.

Or if you do really want the space, a Volvo V70 T5 estate

But my money's ultimately on something fun to drive with a decent engine if you're doing such little mileage :)

I'm going to stop editing now.

Having gone from a Zetec-S, to a 9-3 Aero (both of which have relatively firm suspension) to the Accord, I'm really quite liking the wallowy nature of the Honda. Saying that, if part of the purpose is enjoyment, wallowy might now be suitable because I'm not doing nearly as many miles.

T5 definitely appeals though

You may remember me from previous threads such as "oh no, ive bought a money pit of a bargain accord" and "i really love my new saab, it will last me forever, honest!"

So in a thread you think you have been a bit harsh in (self critiquing? My word whatever next.. ;))

If no one comments on you, you have to actually post and tell everyone this (e.g. above), and if people do comment on you, you always claim you are picked on, and so tell everyone..

I don't think people can win

:D

I will say this thread does deliver though... :)

Bit unecessary, dont you think? It's only because of nonsense like this that makes these threads so frustrating.

FWIW, the Accord wasnt a money pit - I posted for advice on a few niggles, which have been sorted. It's cost very little money to fix.

The Saab was a mistake, yes, so I sold it after 3 months. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's made a motoring mistake....not like remapping a car, ruining its clutch and having your wife force you to sell it.

Don't start them then.

You get nothing but abuse from these forums for your threads. Probably because you ignore the advice given and make your own mind up anyway.

So, why not just make your own mind up without posting everything that happens in life on here and save yourself the abuse ?

I'm not saying your choices are wrong or right - but they are yours and not those of the forum. So why bother asking the forum what to do in the first place ?
