Hi Ive just recieved the following :D

Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12)

Intel CPU Pentium E2180 DualCore 2x2.0GHz 800MHz 1Mb LGA775 Retail

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 Express LGA775 1333 FSB Quad-Core

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Asus Radeon 4850 PRO HD512MB PCI-E DVI

My current spec is p4 3.0, rad x800 xtpe.

should i format before putting the new stuff in

Ok, I might aswell start backing my stuff up now to my other drive. After that Ill stick in the new parts and then do a format.

Just need to back up a few things then im gonna start installing the hardware.

Hihi almost same setup as mine.

Remember the option on this mobo to get to RAM timings is CTRL+F1 on the main screen ;).
Set them manually because on auto they go crazy.

Yes good point, might need to up the voltage slightly to, think i had to (also using a gigabyte p35 board, same memory, and E2160)

Looking at all them boxes of nice new hardware makes me want to order something lol:D

Got it all setup now, just finishing installing drivers. PhoenixUK what timings should I set for the ram?

Depends on the overclock/fsb of your CPU you will get.

But from what I've tested with this RAM you should be about:

600-650mhz - 3-3-3-8
700-800mhz - 4-4-4-10
800-890mhz - 4-4-4-12
900-980mhz - 5-5-5-15
1000-1100mhz - 6-6-6-18.

But from what I've researched at least for this CPU, since it's low fsb, the best is putting it on 1:1 with memory, and try getting lowest timings you can, that should put you at about ~700mhz with 9x350.

if its 600-700 start with 4-4-4-10, and then work your way slowly down with testing each one with memtest and orthos blend for stability. You can try 800-890 range with 4-4-4-12 as well and check whats best for you.

Yeah people generally say reformat when you put a new board in, but i personally reformat every 3 or 4 months as i normally find something wrong.
Also a massive box for Corsair PSU, jeez.

Lads are these the right settings for my ram:

According to Phonenix's testing yeah its dandy.
Well i think so because the frequency is dounbled but it is "DDR", i think, i need some sleep but it makes sense . . . roughly/

Yeh that's 1:2 timing, I assume this was with your CPU on stock with 10x200 and your RAM was x2 so 400mhz.

Go go go OC it. Don't forget to switch of C1E, speedstep and all other crap.
Also put 2.0v for this memory and start working with the CPU.

If you don't wanna waste time I think you can try those:

265x10
memory divider 3.0 - giving you 3x265=795, memory timings 4-4-4-10.

That should be possible with stock voltage or very slightly higher, not sure what your VID is but add ~0.3v and it should be fine for that speed.

Then you can move on up from there slowly, but don't forget to set the ram to 2.0 (1:1) when you raise fsb.

I want to run it at stock for a while, gonna try some games soon if it needs ocing I will.

For stock would it be better to run at 1:1 or 1:2
