Should I return my 2407WFD?

Purchased my Dell 2407WFD in June 2007 and it has a 4 year warranty on it.

The power button has broken, it gets stuck in (not dirt) and you can rotate it 360 degrees. Sometimes it works fine, other times, if it has rotated a bit, I have to use a bit of blutack to turn it back to it's correct position, else I press it and it stays in.

The obvious thing to do is return it. However, apart from that, the monitor is perfect, no dead pixels whatsoever. I'm worried that if I return it, I might get one with a dead pixel back.

Do any other owners of this monitor suffer from any dead pixels, if not I might risk returning it.

Thanks

Phil

Thanks.

Just phoned them and they said they would replace it with a refurbished one on Wednesday.

I mentioned that mine doesn't have any dead pixels and they said that there's an industry standard where a few dead pixels are acceptable as long as they're not in a clump, but that a refurbished one would have been thoroughly tested and is unlikely to have any.

If it does, then it's going back ;)

Thats not right, I have spoken to a Dell staff member (have screen print to prove what they said to me) & they said that they have a zero dead pixel policy! Unless its changed recently but I doubt it!

Glad you are being sorted out though :)

Thanks. Maybe it depends on the monitor, cheaper ones don't have the policy and he's getting confused?

Anyway I suspect it will be fine, if not, I'll keep returning it until they get sick of me and check one before they send it out ;)

I had exactly the same problem with the same monitor so added and inline power switch (the sort used for table lamps) to the cable and it now hangs just behind the monitor and is as easy to use as the original switch.

Thanks. I just did a quick google on "2407wfp replacement" and it appears a lot of people are having exactly the same problem.

picture and how?

my power button broke got it replaced eventually with a new one but was just wondering if it happened in future i won't be sending anything back to dell.

would be helpful. thanks :)

After reading the Dell forum, a lot of people are complaining about having a perfectly working monitor (no dead pixels/banding etc), having the power button problem, and getting in a cycle of getting refurbished after refurbished back and never seem to be getting one as good as their original.

I think I'll phone them up first thing and cancel my replacement. Very happy with the picture quality and no dead pixels. Someone said that a tiny piece of clear tape over the power button with it rotated to it's correct position fixes the problem, think I'll give that a try.

really funny - i had the same problem about 2 weeks ago with the power button.

called Dell - got a replacement next day.

Forgot to see whether the picture quality is as good as my original monitor - but it looks alright. can't remember now. too late!

Whatever the person you spoke to said, they were wrong.

They've never, ever had a zero dead/stuck pixel policy. Some Dell retailers offer such guarantees but Dell themselves don't.

I received my monitor about 15 mins ago. There's 1 dead pixel about 4" down and 2" in from the right hand side.

Will see how badly I notice it over the next few weeks before I decide whether it's going back or not.

Being replaced tomorrow.

Cant fault Dells tech support guys, really really helpful.

Had it been a dead pixel, I possibly could have lived with it, but it wasn't, it was a scratch on the outside of the screen. While very small, it makes it look like there's a dead pixel, but because it's on the outside, and there's a gap between that and the screen, it makes it much more noticeable as when you move your head around, you effectively can see under the scratch so the dead pixel is constantly moving around.

I have had 2 2407's replaced for the power button issue. Dell are awesome when it comes to their 4 year warranty. No questions asked and a swap out next day.

In total I have had 5 monitors replaced over the last year, all 2407s for mostly silly little problems. Due to their swap outs I now have 3 A04's rather than a mix of 3's and 4's :-)

That may have been me. If your power button does break and rotate left (I think) about 90 degrees, you can't make if click on or off.

Use a strip of sellotape and stick it to the button. Rotate it back to it's proper position and stick the rest of the tape to the bezel. It looks ghetto, but works fine. I only got mine swapped as I have 2 monitors break with the exact same problem. I now don't bother turning them off when in standby.
