Should I teach my daughter wasd or arrow keys?

If you teach her to use the arrow keys just because its how you learned to play, its a bit like teaching her imperial measurements and then sending her off to school to learn in metric. :p

Merry Christmas. :)

I had to learn both at school :/ :p :)

WASD or a similar positioned keygroup unless she uses her left hand for the mouse.

although if you're gonna buy her a QPAD MK-85 ir doesn't matter either way, jusy macro whatever keys you need in any game (referencing picture; have one myself, but never actually needed the programability :P)

I originally played games on arrow keys, then became a console kiddy, then thanks to my awesome ex, got back to keyboard via WASD, although I still play some games (mainly GTA) on pad.

most of the time I'd say it makes no real odds, just enjoy the game, however competitive online shooters was what pushed me further back in the keyboard camp

She's not going to get a QPAD MK-85 for two reasons. One, they're **** and two, they're ****. Oh yeah - reason three is they're utter **** and their customer services sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.

Other than that, there quite simply aren't enough buttons using arrrow keys to macro them.

Hmm - seems I need a guide on wasd use. At 40 years of age too. Bah :/

kk - will look at more comments later, but it seems I should really teach her wasd.

Cheers for all the input - it's kind of what I thought tbh :)

Merry Christmas y'all!!

WASD for certain. It simply cannot be better to use arrow keys surely? With WASD you can keep a finger on shift/crtl and your thumb on the space bar. Using the arrow keys is as awkward as hell!

In fact, it wouldnt even work, at all! You would have to stop in order to jump, or take your hand off of the mouse and use two hands on the keyboard?

It isn't a tough question, you arrow key people are weird or have three hands. :p

I've jump on mouse 2, fire on mouse 1, sometimes use the scroll wheel for item/weapon selection and as a use button.

Obviously forward/back and strafe on arrows, right ctrl is usually aim down sights or zoom, etc. right shift run/walk modifier, numpad ins(0) crouch, numpad end(1) reload, numpad 4 prone, return is melee, delete primary weapon, end secondary, page down grenade, etc. then the row above that special items, etc. or similar mapping depending on game.

But, there are some games which don't allow for button mapping, and WASD has been the default in pretty much every game for over a decade for a reason. :p

If a game doesn't allow for button mapping then it probably means its also a half arsed port/otherwise shoddy programming practises involved and probably worth a miss anyway :P

Its just metric now, though I hear your point. :)

My parents/grandparents always "spoke in imperial" and when I went to school, it was very confusing. I kept asking my teacher how many inches were in something etc. :p

I enjoyed going to the builder's yard and asking for 2.4m of 4x2 ^_^

if she is a lefty then num pad or UHJK if she is a righty then WASD or ESDF and stop teaching her your bad habbits!

My dad is left-handed which meant, when I gamed on his PC in the 90s, I played games left-handed. I'm now pretty ambidextrous with a mouse. I still find it almost impossible to play FPS games right-handed though and always stick to the arrow keys.

It's a royal pain in the arse to reconfigure keys and left-handed mice are few and far between. I'd say go WASD.

Somebody had a bad experience! I have to say my mk80 is doing just fine ;)

Op, wasd all the way. Arrow keys is like teaching your kid to be left handed. Nothing wrong with it, but will just make gaming life a little bit tougher

WASD, it's the default mapping for pretty much every game now. The point about going from moving to typing is accurate too, I thumb the numpad enter key with my mousehand as it comes over to help the other hand type a message. It's VERY fluid. I imagine your aren't that slow as an arrow key user but you'll never match having 1 of 2 hands in the right place to start.
