Should I teach my daughter wasd or arrow keys?

This is important to get right. I was never taught as a kid and now stuck with the way I use WASD. I use index finger on W, thumb does A S D Z F G C. Where thumb joins your hand does space bar. Little finger on shift and bottom of little on ctrl. Middle finger Q and ring finger tab. If I need E index moves to E and middle comes onto W.

WTAF?

Coming from consoles to Pc gaming I struggled like hell with WASD, but now I don't even need to think about it. Was a long learning curve, kept having to look down and then would get killed in FPs games.

My son has also today started gaming and wants to use the arrow keys, think I will teach him both ways and let him decide.

I started with arrow keys a couple of decades ago

Started using wasd a year ago

Can use both , but way better with arrow keys, sadly there are less keys around the arrow keys for other functions

Everytime I sit down and turn on the pc, my fingers instinctively go to WASD. Second nature now but I started off on arrow keys.

My dad was a scrub when he taught me to play on the Vic 20 he forced me to use arrow keys (in between beltings and cupboard sessions)

(Yes i know there are no arrow keys on a Vic 20 )

Arrow keys? What are those?

Okay this is quite a interesting thread, but here's my story

Iv got my missis into gaming past 18 months she started on arrow keys on her laptop and used mouse pad in left hand on laptop. Now she has a mouse she uses mouse in right hand and she did try with arrow keys but we play mmos together and pressing number keys was annoying to move hand right over to attack and now she's just automatically switched to wasd keys and she wishes she did it ages ago back when she used laptop and used the pad in right hand.

This post just reminded me that the first Hitman used the number pad for movement etc. Sounds silly but from what I can remember, it actually worked fairly well. Annoying having to shuffle the keyboard along the desk though!

I only use arrow keys because I'm left handed & have the mouse in my left hand, when playing games I use the numpad keys with my little finger
