Should I upgrade to win 7 from xp for my gaming?

I mostly game on pc.

Well use for entertainment, movies, music, internet...now and then word,excel, study. MOstly gaming.

I got Just cause 2 and sadly I cant play on XP as it needs DIrect x10+ so vista or win7.

Anyway what you think should I upgrade?

I have loads of current saves and save games on 2nd hard drive and on 1st hard drive XP and my documents basic stuff.

If I detle xp and isntall win7 on this 1st hard drive I will still be able to play my games and continue save games on 2nd hard drive that was isntalled/saved on win xp?
 
Yes, yes a million times yes.

Ditch XP already and go to Win7

Back up and import your saves later, they wont work straight off the install because there are differences to where XP and Win7 saves files
 
Go with W7, xp is incredibly dated now. As long as you keep a copy of your save game files you can paste them back into the correct directory when you reinstall your games.
 
Just switched from xp 32 to windows 7 64

Not noticed any performance increases in my games (starcraft 2, arma 2, fsx, bad company 2, dcs black shark...)

But windows itself is much faster and responsive, maybe because its actually using all of my ram now (perhaps it would have been a more useful comparison if I had 64 bit xp).

Also initial loading of programs after boot up is much, much quicker. Overall I'm pleased. Game performance might also be bottlenecked by my slightly aging graphics card as well.

I have games installed on hard drive E:

If I put win7 on C: will my installed games and save games on E: still work?

Will I need to reinstall games?

Will I lose save games?

Depends on the game and where the saved game files are kept, most are in "My Documents" folder but some are in the game install folder. Best bet is to check each individual game on google if it matters that much.

Some games will work, some might not. Anything on Steam will usually be fine.

As for saves, I'd back them up with something like GameSave Manager, then restore them once you're up and running again. That way you're guaranteed to have them put in the right places.

Back up My Documents, that's where a lot fo games are. Isn't there a tool that copies your game saves into the "cloud"?
 
Thinking of doing the samething myself, whats the cheapest you can pick it up for thesedays and is there any reason to get ultimate over normal? And should I get 64 over 32 bit?

my cpu is dual core e2180 might upgrade in a year or 2.
 
a little while back i would have stuck with XP but im fully converted to windows 7 now!
im a bit gutted as theres a few games that are buggy or just wont work on windows 7 but theyre quite rare.
 
yeh I heard some odler games are funny with win7...

But new games are fine.


I have my games installed on E; 750gb. XP runs on C: 150gb HDD

My save games will no doubt be in my documents on C:

But I will copy and backup all save games to E:

Then on install of win7 I will transfer svae games back to same folders on C:my documents etc..

So hopefully they all work?
 
i upgraded from XP to 7 about a month back - games run smoother & prettier, and win 7 exclusives (such as JC2) are playable. Plus, i haven't had any problems getting older games to run so far.

So yes, i would heartily recommend the upgrade.
