Should I upgrade

Calling out the Xbox One on it's install times is really nitpicking. I've not noticed a problem but then I normally stick the disk in and go make a cup of tea, watch a bit of TV for 30 minutes, go back and it's done.

I suppose it feels like a long time if you sit and watch the bar though.

Criticising a 30 minute install time from a disc is not "nitpicking" at all. That's really rather poor. Presumably it can at least download the inevitable day-one update at the same time, or do you then have to wait for that too?

Oh I see you've made your choice already. I have all last-gen consoles but I started off with the Xbox 360 and leapt into next-gen by going XB1. Main reasons for this:

1) My account/achievements(26k)/friends list
2) Certain games I like more
3) I'm so used to the XB1/360 controller and even though I can play with the DS3/4 I cannot play competitively with them.
4) I feel Live is far more stable and has less downtime

There are probably other reasons but I'm short on memory right now.
I've been Xbox for so long, it's just where home is for me.

My sister went with the PS3 last-gen and will be moving onto a PS4 this-gen and her reasoning is simply because like myself it's what she has gotten used to. Particularly emphasising the comfort with the controller. I would imagine the controller would be a major turning point? Obviously if you're new to console gaming you're not really going to be able to make a comparison as to which feels better in your hand unless you test both. The PS4 has the more capable hardware but I feel like the difference is negligible. Perhaps it's because I expected 50% more power meant 50% better graphics. It's not something without a keen eye I've been able to visually pick upon. I know I'll get those that will link me to a youtube video side by side comparison but who actually plays games like that, nitpicking how green the vegetation is or how blue the sea is? The PS4 is a nice looking console, has a great variety of exclusives to cater many tastes and that bit more raw power. Although as of now though I'm not sold on the PS4's power, perhaps with time we will see a greater difference or not. I also like the fact that Live is about £25 sometimes even cheaper. I understand PS Plus offers better value but I've never been interested in the games offered from either XB or PS as I've either already played them or they've no interest to me. So in my view Live works out cheaper £25 vs Ps Plus £35. Correct me if I'm wrong in regards to PS Plus prices. I pre-ordered the XB1 so I paid the RRP and it's a little disappointing how quickly it's come down in price but I had a fun year, so it's all good. With the original RRP I felt robbed when comparing to a PS4 but now that it is so much cheaper I really think it should be given some consideration. Finally, with Phil Spencer in charge I'm hopeful he'll take the XBOX on the path to redemption.

Just thought I'd post up my 2p with regards to Controllers.

Back in the Xbox 360 controller and DS3 times, There seemed to be a general consensus that the DS3 was sub par and the 360 controller was the king. Now I didn't really play First person shooters and so the stick positioning and apparent dead zones on the DS3 werent all that major to me. I found the DS3 pad to be superior for hack and slash type games, fighting games and my stealth based games! But could definitely see where the 360 pad was superior when it came to other types.

The newer pads I feel change the game up somewhat, DS4 is definitely better than the DS3, After playing Killzone religiously on the PS3 getting ready for Shadow fall, The cramps, deadzones and stick config become more apparently. Being able to shift instantly to the shadow fall sequel with DS4, The change is night and day, The wide grips on the pad alleviate any issues with cramping, Stick positioning not being optimal makes no difference as the wider grip seems to help relieve those issues. Dead Zones are none existent, and I noticed some mention of button lag in another thread this morning, I personally don't see it. (I believe the lag may be Injustice specific, if you've seen these comments in another thread)

Personally I would say that this gen, now the problematic areas are sorted, the DS4 is superior to the Xbox1 pad. But then again, I'm still not playing that many FPS games, and the Playstation pad is just a better fit for the games I enjoy.

Yeah take what I said as my opinion rather than obscene testing. It's just my literal hands on experience. :D

The DS4 is an excellent pad. Miles better than the DS3. The sticks can be an issue but I've replaced them with some X1 controller sticks and it's made the pad better as well.

Just a thing putting me off is PSN outage they get it too often

I really dont think this should put you off, I feel it gets overly reported by some gaming websites when its only very minor.

Yesterday the psn store was reported to be hacked, I'm guessing it was, did it effect me, NO. I think it was down for a very short time anyway. Could I still game online, Yes. gaming media sites reported it like it was the end of the world, I did not even notice it had been hacked until I read it on these forums.

PSN does seem to do planned maintenance at inconvenient times for some, this personally does not bother me, I have heard as long as you have gone online in a time frame before the outage you can still play online anyway?

I actually cant remember the last time there was a planned outage or long spell of unplanned outage on psn?

Its really not as bad as some make out, online gaming/party chat has been faultless for me, unless its the game that has the problems of cause.

Xbox live does have its issues as well at times, maybe media sites dont jump on the band wagon and slat it as much when it does. I guess psn just has a poor rep from the past.

Yes it downloads patches at the same time. Apparently if you disconnect from Live to stop the patch downloading the install is quicker. Not tried it though. Im happy to just go do something else until it is ready.
