Should life mean life?

I think people are forgetting that the problem here is that they assessed that he was no longer a risk. That is surely where the error was, I cant believe we suddenly want to start shooting people.

There's also a guy in the other thread who wants people shot dead for drinking alcohol or doing drugs.

I mean what is happening to society? Does anyone realise what it's like to kill people? Has society really become this desensitised to bloodshed? I cant even imagine wanting my worst enemies dead!

Rubbish, it’s nothing to do with space in prisons. They where judged safe to be released, nothing to do with government or funding.
Regardless of any other point made in this thread, can you not see a potential link between available prison space and [pressure to] judge convicts as safe for release?

Because I think the link is pretty obvious. Or could be.

I’m not asking for the murderer to be killed, just that life means life in prison.
In reality there's not a whole lot of difference between life in prison (if actually served until death) and being put to death.

The key/sole difference really is the prospect of being released early/conviction quashed if serving a life imprisonment term. If there's no prospect of that, then there's not a whole lot of point in living. I.e. it's not too dissimilar to a death sentence.

Well there is a whole lot of differnce, you're not dead.

That's partly why I said the committee should be some how linked to those they free so that the pressure is on them to keep them.in not out unless they are sure.

These guys were career criminals of the lowest kind who immediately started to reoffend.

Anyone who judged them safe for release should be fired immediatley

As much as I like the idea of the death penalty, you would have to be 100% sure they did it, as you can't bring them back if it's found the DNA results were wrong.
I think prison should be hard time. You dig holes (or something) then fill them back in again for 10 hours a day. Then you go back to your small cell with 5 others and wait till the next day to start all over again.
Yes they get food, no menu just one choice. If you don't like it wait for tomorrow's meal

So say you found out you send somone to the hole dogging prison for 30 years wrongly can you give them 30 years back?

Also harsh prisons cost a fortune to run because there is little to control the inmates.

"Cushy" prions keep them quiet and not rioting. What do you do when every day your prisoners whack the guards with thier shovels?

Because life does mean life. Just not necessarily life behind bars. You may want to look up the basics before embarrassing yourself further...
life sentence
noun
plural noun: life sentences
a punishment of life imprisonment or of imprisonment for a specified long period

Most justice systems in the world when they put someone in jail for life they are there until they die the UK is far too soft when it comes to this I use to work in the prison service and trust me many in there should never get out.

As we live in a part of the world with free speech if I want to say life should mean life then that is my opinion

You clearly need to up the quality of your enemies.

An example of revenge, or justice, or eye for an eye, or compensation? What was that case an example of, other than to be a point-to argument for someone who endorses state-sanctioned murder?
It's an example that qualifies as having absolute, irrefutable, incontrovertible evidence of guilt, where there is zero chance of evidence being unearthed in the future casting doubt on the original sentence - it completely nullifies the whole "we can never be 100% sure" stance.
Who would make that robot? Not you, I assume.
I vote Cyberdyne Systems! ;) :D

Would you do this job? A clear Yes or No will suffice.

e: Resistance, thanks for the background. SA, yes/no?

The Americans dont seem to have trouble finding somone to do it nor do most death sentence countries so I'm not sure that's a realistic line of argument

The hangman used to be a really well paid job in the UK. Theres plenty of people who will kill for money, especially when it's legal.
