Many subreddits have decided to no longer allow linking to X / Twitter. I personally think Overclockers should also no longer allow linking to X. What say you?

In general there should be move away for official usage. It should no longer be used by politicians or government agencies , this can be put into law. There should also be pressure on enterprises to stop using Twitter but I don't see an easy way. Rather, governments should heavily mandate Twitter operations and compliance znd enforce removal of misinformation that comprises democracy and national security.

I wouldn't miss it personally, I can see the free speech angle though.

Let's face it, it's a cess pool of drive by anger, polarised opinion, racism and advertising used by a "side" to spread their messages.

Question is, do Meta apps follow?

X is no longer a platform of free speech when the owner can and has banned people for whatever reason they like. I think Bluesky should be the platform allowed on Overclockers.

Meta should definitely be banned too now that there is no fact checking of any kind.

I'm genuinely split on this. On one hand I don't see why we should spread messages of hate, on the other hand I feel like this is somehow what "they" want us to do and it further fuels a divide.

Much as I don't like Musk I also support free speech even if it's an awful platform now.

It's simply the fact I can't read linked Tweets any more but you can on Bluesky and most people of relavance are on there now.

Lots of discussion I saw yesterday on all the football clubs and F1 forums of banning Twitter use with broad support.

There seems to be a sea change already with organisations moving away from and/ or closing ******* accounts to Blue Sky. This should’ve happened years ago as ******* has been a toxic environment for far too long.

However, I don’t think links to posts should be banned. Links to the Daily Mail are still allowed despite informational value being barely higher than that of social media

EDIT: used an ‘a’ instead of an ‘i’. Work it out yourself

Hopefully the mods can add a poll to this post so that we can get a better idea of the number for and against banning twitter.
Really that should go out to GD and involve the whole forum not just a handful on SC.

It would also be an interesting view into the current forum's leanings as I always thought OcUK (or at least use to be) somewhat right leaning.

However, freedom of speech can be balanced out with democratic vote. Sounds sensible. It's almost at the level of Truth Social now.

Who wants constant Porn and Gore in their feeds? It's not a professional platform for businesses to use anymore.

I stopped using X a few months back, became an utter cess pool so I’d be in favour but I also dislike all forms of social media, sometimes even this very forum so I’m not sure I can give an unbiased view.

Musk aside, Twitter links should be banned because it's all hidden behind a login requirement now. Someone says "look at the replies...." well you can't, unless you're one of the dysfunctional people that actually has an account on that cesspit.

Can individually just block X inembeds , using UblockO - still leaves a space on the page you have to scroll past though,
if I had an option that would put them in spoilers (with no cpu resources used unless you clicked) , or one that would replace youtube embeds by just the title of the video,
that would also help reduce regretted user minutes (as musk calls them)

No. Because it's creating an echo chamber.

I noticed bluesky have done it.

All it's doing is making people's life harder by forcing them to create multiple full posts in different places.

After Musks fascist salute yesterday many subreddits have decided to no longer allow linking to X / Twitter. I personally think Overclockers should also no longer allow linking to X. What say you?
It's ridiculous. And it wasn't a fascist salute. It was a hand gesture that looked a bit like one. Nobody serious is actually suggesting Elon is a Nazi or is sympathetic to any Nazi cause.

I know modern cancel culture finds it difficult to accept how powerless it is when dealing with the worlds richest man, but it's going to have to deal with it.

Someone somewhere posted an image of basically all the previous presidents and vps doing similar gestures, he was symbolically giving his heart to the crowd.

But to the people who want to ban X, go ahead, Trumps victory in the election has shown you’ll just make things worse in the long run.
