Should Mac and Linux be split?

Seems that as more and more people are moving over to Macs there are more and more Apple related threads. How do the Linux people feel about all the Mac threads in what used to be a 99% Linux forum? In my opinion it is perhaps time to seperate them out as they don't really had that much in common(apart the Unix foundations). It does feel a little like the two are lumped together. Anyone in agreement or is there not enough volume to justify seperate forums?

Yeah but there's only a few users who bother posting in the Mac threads, so it wouldn't be worth it.

Although... you could argue a split would encourage more traffic ;)

A lot of people who dig Linux also dig Macs. I see this forum as being for non-Windows operating systems and software, not so much about specifically Linux and Apple.

I agree :) A seperate Mac forum would be great. I am sure there are a lot more Mac users on these forums, but no one ventures into here :(

this comes up every 6 months but theres not enough support or the mods just dont want to do it.

sorry but i think your wasting your time, i dont mind them being together just use the SEARCH if you need to find something

As Ghost says, there isn't enough traffic in here to warrant subdividing the forums any further.

But at the end of the day, email on of the Dons and ask, they don't bite....

Yeah. Split them. Mac use is definitely on the rise.

(Also, take the opportunity to put a space in OSX :p)

I would like to see a seperate mac forum, as i think not only would you have the mac people from here, but you'd also have those who don't want to venture into the "scary linux" forum.

However, I understand why it won't happen as it's not exactly great business sense having threads with people saying how great their macs are?

I dunno - there's a lot of trouble shooting too.

Come on. Cases have their own forum. Surely the entire Mac software + hardware spectrum warrants a seperate forum. :o

Y'know, as I'm supposed to be moderator in here, I really ought to pay more attention. :o

Having just had a look at some stats, this forum gets about 22 posts per day, which isn't a lot compared to some other forums (granted, there are also quieter ones).

Also, while there are lots of obvious differences between Macs and Linux boxen, there are lots of obvious similarities too (they both share the same roots, for a start).

This has been raised to the moderating team (that's what brought me here), so it will be discussed. I can't promise any more than that. :)

Oh, and on the subject of me paying attention, if there's something like this you want to bring to my attention, please RTM it. RTMs aren't just used for rule-breaking posts. :)

It really should be split. You know that the stats don't mean all that much really, if split into two forums then there will be more posts. People get scared off by the whole Linux thing ;)

We have forums for each bit of hardware in a computer, but not one specificly for Mac hardware/software! It's just not right :p

Let us know how it goes :)

B..b..but, we don't have a hardware/software section. :p :D

Yes, I've already noticed the number of Mac hardware questions here

PSUs get no love...

Mr. Berserker, I'd still be happy if ya'll corrected the spelling of OS X in the forum's title. :D

Don't start giving in that easily :p

We need to get more people in here really, but i don't think it helps when we have Linux and everything in here too. As it does scare people off a bit, and we can't really have stickies and things for all the Mac info.
