should people be arrested for offensive costumes?

I wish authority would stop treating everybody as though they're so mentally unstable, that we can't tolerate someone wearing a silly costume, or somebody blatantly taking the ****, without having to throw them in court.

If that was someone I knew, I'd just tell them to grow up and show some respect (to the families who lost loved ones etc) but I wouldn't expect them to be arrested and prosecuted, that's just going too far.

Must be a slow news week/weekend in GD if users are having to drag up year old news articles to get their "i need to be angry at something" fix...

The government don't enforce the law they set it.
The police police it and if they believe its been broken they charge someone.
The (most of the time) CPS review the case and decide if they agree with the police.
The courts decide once and for all (bar appeal) if someone has indeed broken the law and if so decide upon the punishment.

The laws being enforced right now are the ones that mainly the recent C&UP put in place which many warned were likely to infringe on our liberties.
People cheered when they were being used against JSO etc.
Not so much now of course.

how about read the thread before you comment?

I explained why I linked an old article.... its in the news again because sentencing is soon..... I choose not to use a link that makes you accept 1000 cookies.

next time I will just maske ya;ll accept a million cookies and 500 adverts and use a "fresh link"..

anyone who complains I'll just link your quoted post.

why does the age of the article matter so much? and when hes being sentenced next month surely its still relevant?

You think cosplayers should be arrested or what? because someone gets offended? what next it's offensive to Muslims even though they seem to be the only ones in the world doing suicide bombings?

ahhh now I see, it must be Islamophobic.

Yeap, and it continues happen with the introduction of every "won't someone think of the children" law which initially "looks" like its sensible but somehow always ends up being used to punish people that the law was never initially intended to punish in the first place.

Ku Klux Clan costumes are a knock off of Spanish Catholic costume for some festival or other going back hundreds of years. The burning crosses thing comes from some old film called Birth of a Nation which is itself a mistake based on William Wallace lighting burning crosses as his army marched into England. But they didn't know Wallace's crosses were Saltire's not crucifixes.

They're Catholic devotional things:

They still do this in Spain, and lots of towns (I saw them in avila and salamanca) sell figurines etc, which they now have to mark "NOT KU KLUX KLAN" which is just sad.

to be honest, i'd just arrest him for being a knobhead. anyone thinking dressing up like is funny has to be a bit of knob and probably could do with a healthy dose of reality from his majesty's finest.
