Should prohibition end?

A good reason to regulate supply.

Sure it will still be possible for this to happen (like kids getting their hands on alcohol presently)... but less likely as current suppliers don't care about the recipient as long as they have the money!
:) Just heard from my sister my brother in-law has finished work and is off down the park to give the little **** a slap, my only regret is I can't be present! Selling cannabis in a pub or club is one thing but selling/offering to minors is another!

Too true, it's wrong

My nephew is a good boy, he said no to the walking talking abortion and came straight home and told his mum exactly what happened.

It's a human right to use whatever drugs you want so of course they should be legalised.

You really want to go out and say no one has ever died from weed? If you puke enough times you run out of things in your stomache to puke and puke up the lining of it instead. Puke up enough of it and it splits your stomache and kills you. Painful way to die.

You do not die if you vomit on an empty stomach...

I accept the human right argument, but what about the others that have to pick up the pieces when those humans can't control themselves?

I am in full agreement that education has a place to play - but I think we are a million miles away from being ready to legalise things with the way people are so impulsive and compulsive about such things at the moment.

As I said before, we're not a good representation of the population on this forum.

Doesn't that already happen, anyway? Picking up the pieces that is..

There is little evidence to show increased consumption upon legalisation afaik anyway, and if anything our society might improve a bit without the criminalization aspect that youthful experimentation can result in.

You do raise a wider issue with that however, and the balance between a right to freedom and protection are going to be difficult to nail down dependent upon my or the next persons views.

Whilst true... I really don't see myself as in the minority of weed users who can toke responsibly.

I don't know a single 'stoner' as in the stereotype form who bums around life with no aim, scraping between benefits cheques whilst using them for green and munchies...

The ones I come across are like me... heck... I even met two more at my new(ish) job!

Every one I know (dozens), use it in such a way that it has no negative effect on themselves or those around them (apart, of course, from the inherent downside of smoking any substance)... usually keeping use to weekends / parties / etc.

A good friend just visited me for a 'stoner' weekend... he'd just polished off his final exams, for which he had not touched the stuff for months... it's so addictive! What did we do? We got a big bag of munchies from the local shop, a couple of take outs and watched a bunch of crappy films... it's nice to relax like that once in a while. I'm normally quite active at the weekend and rarely get the chance to just sit and chill like that. It's simple, reasonable recreational use with no impact on the outside world... I know I'm repeating myself... but why am I a criminal for this?!

Why should the minority who can't control themselves have such a profoundly negative effect on those who can?

I may be lucky in that I've only ever met the 'good' ones... but surely I would have at least encountered one of the bad ones... oh wait, they'll be at home on the couch, not causing anyone any bother other than a small drain on the economy, which is abused far more by people who've never touched the drug!

There will always be substance abusers... whether whatever the substance is, is legal or not.

Why not at least give them the opportunity to know the source, know the contents (yeah, even if it's only cut with sugar/flour), know the quality... this simple argument should be enough to make it legal.

... that would lead to more research on the subject of what actually constitutes abuse in the first place...

Then why do I know someone who died from weed? Ripped up all their stomache from smoking too much when they started puking and died from the internal bleeding and spewing acid about his body.

Basically what happened was we went out clubbing, got drunk came home he started smoking weed and the combination just sent his body way over the edge and he started puking and couldn't stop.

Sorry for your loss mate, but:

1st post - Drugs kill friend

2nd post - oh but he was drunk too!

For me personally... I would be happy enough with personal use being decriminalised.

I strongly believe the greater good would be full regluation. Everything should be available to those willing to accept the risks. Information and research is the key. Those too stupid and/or young should be denied access (I know 'too stupid' would never pass as a criterium).

Crimes commited under the influence of a drug or in pursuit of a drug should carry much much harsher penalties.

Smoking and drinking kill copious numbers and yet they're allowed... it's an illogical system and I would rather see both alcohol and smoking banned than the state it is in at the minute.

Prohibition does not work... we have years of proof of this, so we need another solution... I'm open to ideas

Conversely... over-population is a much bigger issue... wiping out a few of the lesser-minded-****wits would really be such a bad thing? Even if that was the case...

We also have a dumbing down of the general population that's getting worse every year. The chuff of society are regularly spawning in excess of 2-3 children per household whereas the intelligent folk are usually only having 1-2 each if any at all!

I fail, I had to google what you meant. No, the image was given to me in the sig creation thread. Although I do like E30's, and had a 320i until it disintegrated into a large pile of rust.
