Should Shambo die?

If it can be isolated to minimize spread of the disease, and can be treated or the animal isn't in pain then there is no way it should be killed. Isn't that obvious?
I completely agree with you Vai

Actually id imagine that most of them are of british origin..from what ive read of the place, its fully of dirty hippies..most of the immigrant hindus live in the cities and work...not hang about in some welsh valley skipping round and humping trees..
Heh I’m not far from there at the moment, you have a point.

Why the hell do they love cows so much anyway?
Very basically from a more modern perspective they love (respect) cows because they represent the entire animal kingdom and is sort of man's link to the dumb animals of Creation. The cow is Aghanya/ that which may not be slaughtered.

But yes I agree with the majority on here no laws should be bent in this or any other case just because of religious/cultural beliefs.

If they want to keep the animal, a professional could enforce and check procedures, at the expense of the owners of course.

Fair enough, but those expenses should also include recompense for any neighbouring farmers who are now under crippling movement restrictions and testing orders because of this animals positive tb test ,and all the expenses of the SVS who have to do/pay for all the testing -could run into many £1000s

On reading more about this elsewhere,it appears that this animal has magically become 'sacred' AFTER it failed the tb test.It was just a.n.other animal in a herd of 35 cattle until this time
Its not a bull either btw, unless they are bypassing those regulations too (it would need a nosering)

Nice attempt at media manipulation on their part, but shouldn't alter the rules that every other livestock keeper have to follow .

Erm, aren't all bulls and cows considered sacred by Hindus?

Yes. It's because the cow gives milk, and bull helps with other things (farming). Most Hindu's and Sikh's don't eat Beef because of this.

I read something recently about an increase in the risk of TB being transmitted to humans, and as it was one of the highest killers in past years I think shambo should die, if the PC brigade want it to be saved it should be put in a bubble at the expense of the hindu community, not that of tax payers.

Why the hell is this a story in the first place??? The cow should have been killed the instance it was diagnosed, sod the hindu beliefs!

Would anyone allow me to keep a dog in quarantine if it had rabies? Of course not I hear you say, so why the disparity just cos it is a cow?

Because religion has political power, that's why.

Look at them, they're perfectly designed to carry as much flesh as possible for it's surface area. They're meant to be eaten.

Something to do with the hindhu's many gods that they believe in i think..not too sure though.

Ever seen an indian cow ie from India...they are so painfully thin that its not funny. Last time i was in India, 3 yrs ago on business...the driver of the car we had almost hit one as they freely roam the streets of Delhi/Mumbai. The driver then got out and spent the next freakin hr apologising to the cow... seriously no joke...at first we found it funny but then it got stupid as we were in a hurry to get to a meeting.

I tell you these hindhu's are a strange bunch:p...they have a god for literally every animal lol:p.

Personally i would have hit the cow head on, killed it then put it on my roof the carted it off home to slice it up for some nice juicy steaks but then seeing just how skinny those indian cows are....thanks but no thanks...id be lucky to get any decent meat off it :p

Question is, if this was just a normal cow, there would be no fuss, and the cow would be dead, because religion is involved the story should not be changed.

Maybe the SAS (Super Animal Squad) could switch him under the cover of darkness, everyone is happy then.

But the Welsh assembly government said infected animals were slaughtered to "protect both human and animal health"
Too right. TB can be devastating if it gets into a farmers herd, and it doesn't do humans any good either.

Kill it now. They can always get a new sacred cow.

I don’t think the risk to humans has got any greater if anything the risk has been greatly reduced because of the way we deal with infected stock. With pasteurisation of milk and human vaccination it’s not such a problem to our health. It is however a big problem to the farming community both financially and practically, milk from infected stock has to be disposed of and the animal is slaughtered.

Religion should not even be considered in matter such as this and the animal should be put down.
