Should Suarez apologize?

Instead the club acted on a rumour...nothing more..

No. They were told by Reina that Barca were going to be bidding for him and that he'd want to join them.
I was surprised to hear that he extended his contract last year would he have done that without some kind of release agreement in place?

He didn't extend his contract. He got a pay rise with the length of the deal being no different to what he already had left on his old deal.

Suarez is better than Bale

and there's no point in suarez apologising as it will be an empty apology and liverpool fc and their fans would be total mugs to think it had any conviction. this player would leave you for arsenal tomorrow if he could.

It is but if the club have done the dirty on him and gone back on a verbal agreement because his agent didn't read a contract properly why should he have to apologize? also most articles put out are PR.

Brendan Rodgers is a hypocrite as well if you read some of the stuff he was saying before jumping ship to Liverpool, where was his loyalty when tested?

Was Brendan Rodgers backed by his club through racism accusations/cheating/biting ?

Suarez has 'done the dirty' on the club plenty of times before.

If Suarez didn't have a meaningless verbal agreement why shouldn't the club demand an apology?

Gone back on a verbal agreement eh, you mean like Suarez did over the Evra handshake?

Suarez is better than Bale and when LFC see Madrid offering near £100 million for him they are going to want a lot more than £40 million for Suarez imo.

Unfortunately clubs are unwilling to pay Bale figures for Suarez due to him being mentally unstable.

Exactly, without knowing what's gone on behind the scene it's club spin v Suarez spin and obviously given Suarez's rep most people will believe the club and the club know that. My point is the clause in his contract that said they would consider any bid above £40m and notify him could easily have been backed up with a verbal promise to let him leave, which Liverpool have now reneged on. If he hadn't had such a good season and carried Liverpool nobody would be bidding so much for him anyway.

If there was a verbal promise to sell at that figure why wasn't it backed up with a firm clause in his deal? Liverpool said "no worries Luis, we'll definitely sell you for £40m but sorry, we're not putting that in writing."?

edit: It's far more likely that Liverpool's supposed promise was more along the lines of what's written in his clause; they'll consider bids in that region. The consideration is there to cover themselves in situations like this where Arsenal have come in for him.

I don't care too much for the situation but; Suarez wants to leave so having an unhappy player on your books probably is not the best move.

While I don't think Suarez's interviews and comments to the media were the best choice he's made, although not as bad as being a racist cannibal, I don't think Rodgers has done himself many favours by talking to much about it in the media either.

Just come out, say you will talk to Suarez and he's training away from the team because you think it's counter productive, don't come out and start bleeting about him needing to apologise and all this, just keep it in house not in public, I'd have thought that's more the Liverpool way.

Anyway; TL: DR Suarez is an idiot. Liverpool and Suarez could have handled this better, a lot better in Suarez's case.

A Stan Collymore article:

Suarez is adamant he was given a promise that he could leave Anfield and I have been in enough situations like that to know he could be telling the truth.

Fans are often left in the dark about what happens behind closed doors but the insight I have of being involved in record transfers prevents me from jumping to conclusions.

Some Liverpool fans have labelled Suarez a liar over the promises made to him.

But it is important to realise these gentlemen’s agreements DO exist.

It is possible that Rodgers or managing director Ian Ayre said to Luis or his agent that if he had a good season and Liverpool did not qualify for the Champions League then he could leave.

I think it's fair to say he knows more about transfer dealings than your average fan.

Again, why didn't Suarez have this promise put into his contract then? Surely he'd have to doubt this promise if Liverpool weren't willing to put it in writing.

if Suarez doesn't get what he wants, do people think he will suck it up and play properly or just sulk and do stupid **** like biting people etc.? I'd be genuinely worried that he'll act like a complete child because he hasn't got what he wants, both on and off the pitch.

Liverpool are doing all they can to keep Suarez because they know they wont be able to get another player of his quality. They are a club in free fall with far less money than previous years.

Haha, funny stuff that. You nearly had me, the less money line ruined it though, considering every club has more money this season you should have left that out. would have got more bites that way.

Liverpool fans its like deja vu all over again ehhhh!:D

Have a read from memory lane.....sounds weirdly familiar....

heres a wee snapshot

Torres sought assurances last summer, when he knew Chelsea and City were circling, that he could leave in the event of another disappointing season. Those discussions were held with the then managing director, Christian Purslow, who has now left the club, and ultimately led to the striker's pledging his loyalty to Liverpool.

Torres, the former Atlético Madrid captain, also wanted assurances over the future of the club and what funds were available for rebuilding the squad when Liverpool were bought by the new owners. His camp believes that promises have been broken.
