Show us your kitty cats

We thought it would calm down after a while but it became clear it had been a mistake to get Dave. But we didn't have the heart to take her back so we ended up keeping her, Jess won't go near her and if she does come across Dave by accident, Dave hisses and swipes at her. She's the most affectionate cat in the world to humans but just not with my poor little Jessie :(

Why don't you try to stop him hissing at her? You havn't done your other cat any favours by letting it live in fear in its own house.

 It's not like we just shrugged, and said, "oh well, let them get on with it" - we tried everything that anyone suggested. Scolding her for it, putting them near each other while talking in a nice soothing voice, giving them both treats when they were near each other, Feliway, rubbing them both with cloths so they could get each others' scent... They just do not get on. Dave has been around for 4 years now, so I don't think things are going to change.

Jess doesn't live in fear, they just stay clear of each other. Jess hangs around with the dog, Dave is generally by herself. They eat in the kitchen together (on opposite sides), there are times when Dave will have a go at Jess but she runs away - she's a timid cat who hides/runs away from lots of things anyway, which is why I think that lots of the things we tried didn't work - she just wanted to be out of the room and wasn't interesting in treats/affection that we were trying to give them both.

Maybe if Jess wasn't such a scaredy cat (no pun intended) and had given Dave a swipe back, when she first arrived, things would be different. But Dave knows she is dominant over Jess.

Don't actually own a cat. Just have a regular visitor. Her real name is Mia but before we knew this we called her Ninja due to her ability of appearing from nowhere. The last picture she is attempting to eat my keys.

That cat is like my mate eden, turns up, chills for a bit, steals your spot on the couch, raids the fridge and buggers off...

I think its very important when pairing cats together that their personalities are matched up.

I first chose Mr Bengal when he was 3 weeks old. I was told that he was the biggest of the litter. I also read that Bengals in general, have dominant personalities. To this end, I made sure that his partner, which I was yet to choose, was the most athletic cat available. Research showed that the Egyptian Mau was this cat. I then bought an Egyptian Mau kitten who was the most dominant of his littler.

Unfortunately, what has happened is that the Egyptian Mau is so damn dominant he is way too over powering for Mr Bengal. Mr Bengal is actually quite a gentle cat.

In any case, it's not too bad. Sometimes Reflex (Egyptian Mau) goes too far, and Bengal runs away, however, most of the time, Reflex doesn't push Bengal too hard.

My 3rd cat shall not be a timid breed of cat or the runt of the litter. If I do this, I am just putting the new cat at severe risk of being bullied by the Egyptian Mau for most of his life...which isn't a nice thing.

In summary, it is more important to match up the personalities of the 2 (or more) cats than just their physical size/appearance/sex.

In the case of Jess, I don't really think there is much you can do now. Jess seems like a timid cat, while Dave is the opposite. All you can do is that when ever you see Dave going too far, butt in and break it up. Jess will eventually realise that you will step in if Dave takes things too far.

Anyone know what kind of cat this is? Is it just a fluffier Siamese without the big ears?

Having had cats all my life this one is honestly the coolest cat ever, no idea who he/she belongs to but it occasionally wanders outside our house so I go out to see it every now and again :)

So my cat had a gift for us this morning, during the night she gave birth to a kitten... we didn't even know she was preggers! Unfortunately she didn't live for very long, absolutely gutted :( been on the phone to our vets a few times today and they basically said there's nothing they can do and we should just leave her to it. Feel pretty helpless because they've said its unlikely she'll only have one kitten we've just got to keep her comfortable and wait. :(
