Show us your kitty cats

Aaaah to all the new kittens, Winston looks like a lot of fun in those videos :)

just a quick heads up, if any of you have picky cats like mine that turn their nose up at high content wet food get to ASDA ASAP.

2 boxes of 12 pouches of felix AGAIL and sensations for £3.
The ones I picked up had use by's at the end of next year :) won't say how much I bought lol :(

Mine are bloody picking, or rather Lola is much pickier than Dave, and I don't have endless amounts of space to buy lots of food. They're now only eating the kitten version of Felix, and the kitten grilled version from whiskas, both turning their noses up and the bog standard kitten food. Little gits.

Theyre 19 weeks and 16 weeks tomorrow, am now worried i'm not feeding them enough, only because now i've switched to the above, they're scoffing it all in one go as opposed to grazing.

Giving them a sachet and a half each of wet food over the course of the day, (spread over 3 meals, one in the morning, one when I get home from work, and then one last thing at night) and they have free access to biscuits. The packaging for the food says it should be more than that now, but I didn't know if that was just a ploy to get me to buy more.

Does that amount sound about right? :)

Sadly, beyond vitamins and minerals, Felix and Whiskas are pretty nutritionally weak. Bulked up with grains and vegetable protein that cats can't digest very well (hence the smelly poos), and sugars (cat's don't need carbs at all).

If you have to feed them dry, get high meat and low/no grain stuff like Applaws Dry, Orijen and Purely.

If you want an easily obtainable wet, go for Hi-Life 60% meat (not the other Hi-Life brands) as it's easily the best of easy-to-find foods in the UK.

I thought Applaws was banned ? I used to feed it to my older cat until my local pet shop stopped selling it due to it containing toxins that had been killing cats ? I remember something about it being made at the same cheap chinese factory that produced other cheap foods ?

My cat loved the stuff tbh but I have never bought it since.

Krooton, I'd love them to eat more nutritionally positive food but they just refuse :(
Even tried stuff that looked like it had whole sardines in lol.

Dry fodo they're usually on harringtons but Im trying them on sanabelle atm and they dont seem to be going for it :(

Not sure about switching dry (Winston LOVES Applaws as a treat), but have you tried the phased ratio method mixing good food with the bad to wean them gently?

It might also be down to consistency, as most of the good stuff is dense pate vs the chunks in jelly/gravy of cheaper brands. Cats might not like pate style food.

Have you tried Bozita chunks? They do jelly and gravy versions.

Yeah Bozita chunks was the last one I tried, no ball :(

Got some cans from zooplus which they seemed to like initially, Tuna/Chicken and Tuna/Rice with high meat content of around 65% I think it was. Something Daily I think it was called, they went thru 4 cans then turned their noses up at it :/

Currently mixing Harringtons and sanabelle at around 50/50, came home to 2 bowls with only the sanabelle stuff left in lol.

They really seem to like the harringtons stuff and it has bits n pieces added to help with their health but I'm not sure how good it is tbh.

Oh also, they wont go anywhere near anything in gravy lol, jelly or they walk away :p

Snoopy is exactly like this. I tried her with a Animonda Refine Soupe Trial pack off zooplus, all she did was lick up all the gravey/ sauce and walk away from it - wouldnt touch the meat

I have offered her cooked chicken - nope. I have added mince beef (some out of the pack for our tea) - nope, she didnt touch the food in her bowl with it in there. I have mixed tinned salmon into salmon whiskers - nope, again ignored all the food in the bowl and the whole thing got chucked the following morning...

She is just not interested in 'proper' meat

She has now gone off Whiskers pouches...she used to love them. So much in fact that when tesco had the 3x12 pouch boxes for £10 on offer I stocked piled it up. Well...now my bf's mums cats are nom'ing up the left over 30+ pouches that Snoopy turned her nose up at

Tried her with Whiskers biscuits - nope, ignored them and looked at me like I was stupid for the 2 weeks I gave them too her

The only food she will have now is Felix Sensations or Felix Country Recipes (I think they are called) and Go Cat biscuits...she will begrudgingly will eat Felix Marinades but she isn't keen.

During the week (when I am at work) she has access to biscuits and clean water in an outhouse during the day and at night she has biscuits down and she will have a pouch for her 'din-dins'...I knew she hated the Whiskers biscuits cause the number of birds/ kills increased which were more nom'd than normal

Considering she is a rescue cat, you would think she would be grateful for what she was given, but I think I have the fussiest RSPCA cat in existence :(

Just keep giving them the healthy food. If it's a choice between healthy food and starving, they'll choose the food.

If they are outdoor cats, they will just eat whatever they can catch.

It's annoying how cats imprint on foods, which is what makes rescue cats sometimes impossible to switch to better foods.

Kittens are far easier to influence, though Winston has decided he only likes 2 of the 5 Natural Instinct flavours I've bought him, grrrr!

its not natural for cats to eat a lot of the meat flavours they are given... i wanna see doormouse flavour, roadkill badger flavour, unlucky squirrel etc..
hmm, might take this to dragons den

My boyfriend said the same to me when I was despairing over Snoop's food...he said that she isnt eating it (the whiskers) cause it doesnt taste of Baby Sparrow or Mouse - would be interesting to see if they COULD simulate bird or mouse meat for pet food :p

Dont think I ever mentioned that she brought a live Bat in to the house a few weeks ago...heard this high pitched noise (sounded like a record skipping) coming from the front room - turned the light on and there was a Bat on the rug with Snoopy looking very puzzled but proud with herself for catching this strange creature.

Took it to a trained Bat person (??) and there was nothing wrong with it - no holes in its wings or anything...

Clearly Snoopy wanted Bat for tea that night :D

For those that have trouble trying to get your cats to eat certain foods, have you tried heating it up slightly? It makes the food smellier so more pallatable to the cat. It's also slightly more natural for them to eat warm food.

I would love to feed her high meat content food and so she can be all healthy and happy rather that eating the cat equivalent of McDonalds and KFC every day but, I will be honest here, she is happy and healthy

Shiny coat, bright eyes, wet noise, has mad moments every day where she will charge around the house for about an hour etc etc

She will only ever use her litter tray if she 110% has no other option even then its for a number one.

And - imo - seeing that she spends a good 8 hours a day outside, keeping the local bird and mouse population down I think she is getting the best that I can give her :)

If she was an indoor cat, who I would have had since being a kitten, then yeah ofc I would be feeding her the best of the best of the best and plus i would have a lot more control over what food I introduce her too

Cause Snoopy is a rescue no one is sure what type of life she had before us...I'm just glad she loves me :D

Not quite sure why you quoted my post. When I say heating up food I mean Whiskas or Felix too. It doesn't have to be the higher quality or fresh meat stuff.

My cats get fed Whiskas or Felix pouches (1 pouch each a day) and Royal Canin Persian in the morning. I know it's not the best diet but every attempt to change (no matter how slowly) has resulted in Jasper becoming impacted. Charlie, by default gets what Jasper gets. According to the vet, they are really healthy.

Applaws was never banned.
Orijen dry food had a few problems. It made some cats very ill. But they seem to be over it now.
Applaws is the best dry food available. Followed by Orijen.

Unfortunately, my cats get watery stools when they eat Orijen and Applaws, so I no longer feed this. Also dry food is concentrated with calories - it is easy to consume massive amounts of dry food. My Egyptian Mau was getting fat on dry food...so I stopped.

Since then, I've been feeding them raw meat and branded wet food and my cats are once again in good shape.

If she hunts during those 8 hours, part of her diet is raw meat. Which is good.
My 2 cats are indoor cats.
If I could I would love to let them out, but living in the city, my 2 cats would get stolen in less than a week, so I keep them indoors.

If I lived in the country side or near a forest/wood, then I would definitely allow my 2 cats out and force them to hunt for their own food, only feeding them small amounts of pre-packaged food. Hunting gives them exercise and makes them stronger.

Our cat feeds himself.

He disappeared one afternoon recently (which is unusual for him). He was found returning home across the front lawn, dragging a box of Go Cat behind him! :D

No idea where it came from, but somebody near us is missing part of their shopping.

Special offer on in Asda, 3 boxes (12 sachet's in each) of Felix AGAIL kitten for £10.

Am loathe to change them due to how much they seem to enjoy eating it. Got some James Wellbeloved samples when they got their 2nd jabs, which they love. If I could afford to feed them stuff like that, I would.

When they're a bit older I might look at changing them onto the "non mainstream" stuff, at the moment though they're enjoying eating what i'm giving them.

Does the amount (choice of food aside) sound right though? 1.5 sachets of wet food each a day, and biscuits topped up as and when needed.

My cat Lucy, picture taken yesterday, but unfortunately despite looking well, was suffering from kidney failure, has sadly had to be put to sleep today :(

She was nearly 17 years old, the possessive is that she had a fantastic 17 years :)
