Show Us Your Motors!

Higher powered diesel cars are obscenely expensive to insure for me. To the point where they cost almost as much to insure as both of these combined!

I don't really understand what "problems and hassle" there will be involved. Sure there is the possibility for two cars to go wrong instead of one, and two cars to insure and tax, but if one needs stuff done to it, I have another car to drive while its being sorted... :)

If I get a new job which doesn't involve long commutes anymore, I can just sell the Octavia... :p

Book figures are ******** for these cars which is why nobody quotes them apart from Honda fanboys who like having arguments. 0 - 60 will be about 7 seconds like the Corolla. After mods, who knows. Somewhere between 6 and 6.5 I guess.

If you are happy Acme then surely that is all that matters.

Can I remind people to try and keep this thread on topic though please

Yes indeed Armageus, but as always people are making out that I have to justify everything I do, even after I say that I do it because I want to... I think the lesson I need to learn is to be a bit lighter on the details... I should have just posted a picture of both cars and said "This one is a commuter nail for piling miles onto, this one is for everything else" and left it at that... :p

The Celica isn't really a 'weekend car', maybe I phrased it incorrectly...

The Celica is an 'everything apart from the M23, M25 commute car'.

It will be used at weekends, evenings, on days off, to go to the shops in, perhaps even driving to work in when I'm at my more local office 15 miles away, but not for my 120 mile a day motorway commute, which is what I do on *most* work days.

It was easier to call it a weekend car. If I have a week off work, the Octavia will sit there for a week. On a weekend, the Octavia will just sit there (unless I'm driving to Wales or something) :p

It looks the part, it is more likely to make me look back at it, it is in better condition mechanically and cosmetically, it has a nicer interior, it handles better, it has no rust on it, unlike the Corolla which has a rusty subframe, it will age better and hold its value better, and weirdly it is cheaper to insure.

As someone who has done this with two similar or two none specialist cars I wouldn't bother you'll get bored!! As Paradigm said...

So what you're really saying there is you could have had a single car which is faster than either car for a lot less overall than these two cars.

Cheaper to insure, one less car to tax, one less car to MOT per year etc etc.

Makes total sense that you went for two cars

Same story as ever, amazing super great mint car he has never seen, everyone else is wrong then it turns out to be a diaster. Its amazing how the fact there is so much wrong with the Corolla is now being used as justification yet not long ago everyone was wrong about that and it was a good buy?

Acme will look back on all this one day and cringe.

Sorry, I forgot that a diesel saloon car would be just as fun to drive as a 2ZZ Celica, how silly of me.

If I look back and cringe then so be it. :D

What's a months salary wasted for a bad decision that was a bit of fun, in one lifetime? :)

what ever makes you happy acme! :) I like celica GT's, I wouldn't buy one for the price they seem to go for(4-6k) but if you like the engine and the car then why not, your money your choice etc :) looking forward to seeing it at one of the meets.

mate had one a while ago but never had the chance to even sit in it!

If you don't want opinions then don't post post on a forum.

To some extent this is true, and a fact that Acme no doubt knew what response he would get whilst posting.

However 2 pages on and people are still going on about it - The constant "Acme bashing" is quite frankly wearing a bit thin now.

If you want to carry on discussing Acme's new cars, head over to his Corolla thread (and if required we can get the title updated), rather than continuing to drag this thread off topic.

Lol... :D

Cat D is meaningless anyway as I said. The Corolla has quite clearly been stuffed before, it just wasn't declared. Same with the Polo... In fact even I stuffed the Polo and repaired without declaring... :p

Done about 1,000 miles and loving it. I hate to use the phrase Jekyll and Hyde as it's thrown about too much but this car really can play both parts well.

Strangely though, it having the ZF8, I'm driving more sedately (most of the time) than I was with my manual E46 330Ci. Perhaps 320bhp is wasted on me?!

Sorry not sorry for Instagram filter.

That R8 is lovely. I could never get one though (if I could afford) for this reason - every time one has gone past and I have been with a girl, they have said 'that's nice, must be the new TT'.
