We have about 10 or 12 cabs and the room has the same fire security that Gilly mentioned - better get out there quick if the alarms go off (air sucked out!)

Gilly - You work for them too?

I am a Data Centre Devolper for them and have just finished an efficiency audit of the above Data Centre. Good to see there are no company names in the photo or you would be in trouble! It is very impressive and now very full too. Have you seen the new 2 we have been / are building? They're going to be even more impressive - true tier 4s.

No, not seen them but seen a couple of early design outlays. I only posted the pic I did because it was freely available online already :)

The current mix of gas for fire protection that we're using is Inergen - it seems to be the new 'standard'
INERGEN is a mixture of nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide gases and has been specially developed to provide fire protection as a Halon 1301 replacement. INERGEN® extinguishes fire by reducing the oxygen level in a room to below 15%, the point at which most combustibles will no longer burn. Simultaneously the carbon dioxide in INERGEN® stimulates the uptake of oxygen by the human body, so protecting anyone who might be trapped in the fire area from the effects of the lowered oxygen levels.

Fully tested on humans

could make a fortune tidying that place up with smaller cables, then selling the tons of copper from that nest of old cables for a fortune at current prices.

Couple of pictures from where I used to work (Pipex Nottingham, formerly Host Europe). I'm sure they won't mind me posting these as a) I don't work there any more so they can't fire me ;), and b) they closed down the data centre mid 2005.

First up is about half of our Cobalt RaQ systems:

And second some random servers - closest are our dev boxes and some co-located servers, further away are some of our older production servers.

These show about a quarter of the servers we had, something like 750 in total. Afraid I didn't get a picture of our network cab or UPS, both of which were pretty beefy (you can just see the edge of one UPS in the second photo).
