What’s the low down on bonsai trees? Is there a good guide somewhere on which is good to get?
Looking for a small indoor one.
I see Chinese elm mentioned a lot. I am a complete beginner so some tips tricks or things to look out for from you vets would be good.
Hi Joel, Did you get one?, Chinese Elm are really outdoor trees that will tolerate indoors, Ficus would probably have been a better choice for indoors though
Think im finally going to get started with one of these.

Keep it indoors on a windowsill.
Think im going to try and take a cutting of the red maple i have and try to grow that as a bonsai tree.
Hi Rob
How did your cuttings go?
I planted 24 Acer palmatum 'Deshojo' cuttings some years ago, Of the twenty four cuttings just one rooted!

I still have it although it's almost died a couple of times!
This was the tree alst autumn, I planted in to a Bonsai dish this spring and so far it's hasn't decided to commit Hari Kari!
A couple more, This one is a Katsura (I think!) in autumn.
This one was a patio Maple (Katsura) in spring colour that I Bonsai'd, I left the wire on the trunk too long and it ended up like a corkscrew!!, Given time the threaded bit will come normal, I'll probably not live to see it though! I was going to cut the skinnt top half to make it a broom style but left it and put the wire on!
I had to sell this common Juniper as it was too large to move about the garden, The pot was two feet by eighteen inches and six inches deep, The tree was three feet tall and forty two inches across!, I was ill for three days after I moved it on my own!, The arthritis flared up!
Scots Pine (Sylvestris), Had to cover the surface with stones as the blackbirds and squirrels kept digging the soil out for some reason!!
Literati Hawthorn in flower..
Yamadori Cotoneaster in flower three years ago..
Another friend passed away this year, His wife asked me to take his collection home, Keep what I want and sell the rest for her, I also have another friends trees to look after whilst he's touring Europe for the next six weeks and yet another mate is bringing his collection for me to look after whilst he's in Spain for the next two weeks!, There's so many trees now that they're all over the lawn, There's dead patches of grass everywhere when i've forgotten to move them around every couple of days!
