Show Your Motorsport Photos

Looks like this is my own thread now ;)

Don't worry, I feel that way about some of the other threads.

Motorsports stuff is one thing I haven't done yet so I need to find something nearby to try! Don't think there's much Motorsports in Sussex though :/

Goodwood would be alright if it wasn't so damn busy.

I wouldn't go to Goodwood solely for pics, better to enjoy the atmosphere of the event and try and get a few shots. Maybe the members meeting in March would be better?

There's a members meeting in March? :D What members? From the motors section or photography section?

First day of the new F1 season, testing at Jerez.

After a rather large night out the day before we were a little late in getting to the circuit, by which point the all-access tickets were sold out. Nevertheless, after walking the length of the whole circuit we managed to get a few good positions.

Looking forward to another good day tomorrow.

Having attended last year's test too I believe that there's a change to the engine note this year. The cars are definitely louder but now they're even more distinctive. The Mercedes has much more of an exhaust note than the others and it is very distinctive.

Yeah, I'm thinking of the second Barcelona test too - we saw the race there last May. Give it a go, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

I'm not a terribly serious photographer and I've always found F1 very unrewarding to shoot as a normal spectator on a race weekend. Access is very limited and more often than not you're stuck with one viewpoint and one piece of track. On the other hand, testing is far more accessible. You can get to places where a 200 mm lens is more than sufficient.

do you go out with a group of mates?

i might just head there solo and just snap away for a few days. do you know anywhere close to stay?? also what are the prices for a weekend testing ticket?

Yep, pretty much. Jerez is really easy, as the circuit is only a 10 minute drive from the old town and there are lots of places to stay. Tickets this year were 15 Euro for general admission and 25 Euro for full.

Again, loads of places to stay in Barcelona but the track is further out. 20 minutes on the train to get to it but then you have another 20 - 30 minute walk to get to the circuit.

Just find somewhere to suit your budget / needs. This year in Jerez we paid €50 a night for a twin room, so couldn't really have been any cheaper.

These were my photos from day three - I tried to concentrate on getting inside the cockpits to look at the steering wheels https://www.flickr.com/photos/gregkingston/sets/72157648292254924/

Brilliant photos in this thread, can't wait to go to Silverstone this year now.

I guess I should get some panning practice in before going, after buying an appropriate lens. Living 15-20 minutes drive from Donnington race track may come in handy!

I reckon I kept fewer than 1 in 10 if I was lucky. The change in speed, particularly in the braking zones, makes panning on an F1 car really challenging at slow shutter speeds. For me, anyway!

The panned one of the Lotus at the top of my previous post was 1/40 at 200 mm, and I lost count of how many times I tried to get it. Even then I only managed to get the focus on the back wheel rather than on the driver.
