I have bought a Synology ds413j which is on its way. I will be putting 4 x2T WD Red's into it.

What i would like to know is, is there any advantage of using SHR while the four disks are the same size? I know that SHR is better if you have drives of a different capacity.

Cheers

SHR is Raid 1 + Raid 5, so I would say there is likely to be little/no benefit in choosing SHR in this scenario, but I would wait and see what an actual Synology owner says, there may be some performance differences that I'm not aware of.

According to Snyology, it's not a combination of any traditional RAID levels; http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/What_is_Synology_Hybrid_RAID?

It sounds like a good way to utilise drives of different capacities, but I've no first hand experience of it.
