Shutdown Day - Really interesting experiment

For just one day? I'd be worried if there were people who couldn't cope for 24 hours (omitting business issues of course).

On personal PCs yes, although if business's participated too (especially the one I worked for :p ) think it would be a great idea to force them to not be so relient! :D

Why shouldn't they be so reliant? For the sake of it?

Easy. There are plenty of other forms of media to keep my mind occupied. DVDs, TV, Music, etc :D

I think a better challenge would be to live without gas and electricity for a day.

How about so that when computers / servers / whatever crash (which happens sometimes whether they like it or not) the world as they know it doesn't come to an end? :p

Think of it like a big fire drill :D

Or because it would be fun to come into work and not have everyone staring at their screens and talking to eachother instead? :)

It's a saturday so I probably could do, don't use it much during the day except in between it getting dark and me going out in the evening but i'm sure I could find something else to do (TV probably). Unless I need to bid on anything from Ebay that is.

If it was a weekday I couldn't really do without it, well, i could but I wouldn't be much use at my job, I'd be able to deal with about 50% of the stuff I do normally.

Yep no problem, well saying that only my home PC lol its been off for a few days doing something to the watercooling but ive been to lazy to sort it and put it back together, but im using the work computer lol but that cant be avoided lol but i think people must have a real problem if they cant keep away lol, i dont get any withdrawals on weekend if im out or on holiday etc lol

Wow you said 'lol' 5 times in one sentence.

I can easily go without my computer for a day, or even a week. In fact I did recently whilst on holiday, I survived perfectly well.

Will they switch off the computers at ATCs, hospital ICUs, military and traffic computers - no - so waste of time then.

Well yeah, of course I can survive without my PC for a day, I've got the pub. The question is do I want to and perhaps more importantly will my bank balance and liver forgive me. ;)

My sentiments exactly.

I do all my work via pc ( so i'll happily go along with that so long as it's during the week) :D

It would give me an excuse to read the mounds of books I have yet to read. In fact, it would be a blessing. The amount I spend on it doing nothing constructive depresses me and coincidentally I have decided that I am going to try and shut it down by 9 tonight. :)

If all out pcs at work were turned off the amount of money that would be lost is crazy, so they have to stay on. I go most weekends without using a pc so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Really? Are you that reliant?

I am, I work for an IT department. If we turned off all our systems it would a)cause worldwide panic, and b) take far FAR too long to bring them all back up again problem free.

I havent read it but what does it mean, PC's / Wii / Sky box? they're all computers of some form... oh and no BF2 on a sat... I dont think so.

I did read an article though off subject that stated that if google changed its back drop from white to black it would save the UK £xxxk a year in electricity as white uses more wattage than a dark colour... maybe Google should go green... literally :p
