I want my own kit. What should I be looking for in a balancing machine?

I'm alright with the changer side of things. Just the balancing machines, some seems to be with MSdos type stuff, lots of different brands etc etc.

Hmmm explain further on this static and dynamic part of things.

Not very often but when you need balancing doing or tyres changing not only is £15 each a joke but it's a complete faff going and coming.

I'd rather just have my own stuff and do it myself. You can always sell on the equipment afterwards, always a demand for them.

Getting there :D

1 machine down 1 to go! I like that you can put the tyre on top, do the fixings and cones, and then you just push it over into position as it's on hydraulic hinges!

I see no harm in having one to do it yourself rather than loading it into a car, staring at them whilst they change your tyres. Getting it balanced, revisiting them.

The level of trolling is just not worth it. Trying to communicate with monkeys, **** that.

It's not like I've bought it and it's now worth £0.

He couldn't spell balancer so I sniped it up :D

Just bought the weights, £7 for a box of 3kg!

Average weights used per tyre is 50 give or take.

Introvert ftw.

I have no intentions of doing anyones else. It's purely for me.

Just like my 2 post ramp, hit a wall with dealing with mechanics. Got my own ramp and just repair it myself.

plus they do hundreds of tyres a week so i am sure will be doing a better job than me having my first go on a £350+ machine.

.

You'd think that wouldn't you, but it's just not the case.

Bought some 2.5g weights so now I can calibrate in fine mode.

Most fitters use normal mode which would just round it down to 0g needed, but fine mode is a lot more picky and would request a tiny more amount.

Don't blame you, we're looking at doing similar having 8 cars in the family.

Keep the thread updated as it'll be interesting how you get on once you get the other one.

Well I balanced the Lexus alloys today due to a wobble.

Now smooth as silk

It's very easy to install the wheel on the balancer wrong, I think it's more of a case that people don't install it properly rather than they don't know how to stick the weights on.

Nice idea, but it would take forever to pay itself off. I only get tyres done every other year at £10 a corner...

Not true on the basis you can sell the machine all day long for the amount I paid for it.

It's worthwile if you have 4-5 cars at home. Or like to change cars often.

I'm stuck.

Can either byu a Dunlop tyre changer for £230 or a Bradbury for £330.

Dunlop has a sticking pedal but other than that is a reliable runner.

Bradbury one is fine, good brand and has recently had a new motor and pedals...

Well my angle of attack is that they lasted 13 years being used everyday.

So it should last pretty damn long with being used very very rarely by me...

Already got the balancing stuff sorted, just the tyre changing bits that I need.

I'm getting some plastic protectors that you can buy to protect your alloys.

More just annoyed at not having a workshop / falling out with the family over it and "just saying" it's not that amazing to want your own tools.
I'm sure there would be a lot more people who would have a ramp, compressor, tools and tyre fitting equipment if they had the space to do so..

I have the space, just not the permission any more. :(

Family as in parents or wife? How old are ya?

I really want my own wheel alignment set up but I see 3 issues.

1. I have found a good place that does it for £49 with a hunter.
2. I have a 2 poster.
3. They are pretty expensive for a good one and not worth having money tied in that.

Well the bradbury one has turned up.

Changing the tyre seems relatively logical so will give it a try on the Lexus alloys.

Turns out it is 240v and air which was nice to see, means I don't have to run a 3 phase cable over.

Also installed a retractable air reel instead of having the manual one.

My den is very close to being complete!
