Sick of waiting for NVidia refresh...

...so bought an XBox One X - because there is no way I am paying the current price of 1080Ti for 4k gaming and to be frank I am sick of waiting for NVidia to get their fingers out of their proverbial and release 11** series (not to mention the then 7-9 months wait for a Ti version).

Well competition is so poor at the moment nvidia don't really have any incentive to release new cards quickly

If (and I stress the If) the secondhand market floods with 10 series and 400/500 cards at some point that'll make new sales plummet and then they'll have to do something, To be honest I think it's only really miners that are still buying the first gen 14 & 16 nm cards so if mining sales stop I imagine the gamers who would have upgraded to Pascal etc already have. So fingers crossed for mining to crash.

The Xbox is absolutely redundant for a PC gamer imo.

Personally, i would've waited and played what i already have at a lower resolution and far superior frame rates.

Xbox One X isn't exactly cheap, plus if you haven't already bought into the MS ecosystem, then you need to buy games too and an XBL sub if you play online. Adding it all up, you're probably not far off a next gen Ti/high end card in terms of price.

Oh, and you'll be playing games at a cinematic 24 fps. :p:D

Anyway, regardless of the above. Enjoy.

Top of the line GPUs will always offer horrendous value for money. The next gen will be the same, and it will likely take another generation before we have a true 4K powerhouse. Why? Because that’s the way Nvidia want it.

Solution:

Buy a 1060 now, sacrifice settings and play.

**** GSync, **** ultra settings at 4K, **** buying into a mugs market. **** Nvidia.

Problem solved.

I'm not sure you're correct. The Maxwell Titan X cost £880 when I bought it just over three years ago and it's still a top-notch card. That means it's cost me £24.44 a month. And judging by fleabay I could sell it for over £500.

I completely understand your feelings, that’s why I do t get why you’d still recommend lining Nvidias pockets?

Buying a console puts in in AMDs pockets :)

For the price of xbox one x even in today’s market we can buy a card that can deliver better 4K experience at 30fps so if someone owns a PC I wouldn’t say that buying an Xbox one is a better deal.
Having said that I do own a PS4 Pro but only for exclusive games.

Seems sensible, most of the experience without the prohibitive cost.

If I didn’t have a capable rig already it’s exactly what I would do; specced up a new rig for fun and anything representing a modern day equivalent of mine made my wallet quiver.

Cannonlake might be the cpu that finally tempts me to upgrade though.

I agree.

Happy with my 980, I’ll get a ti next round which will last for ages and deliver an awesome experience. :D

May laptop is more powerful than a Xbox One X and I can carry it around and do other things with it other than play games :p

Yep, and this is why i'm skipping at least 3 generations of GPU. Then will see what RTG/Nvidia have to offer around 2023.

I won't spend over £300 for a card. Especially for souped up console ports.

I don’t think you’ll find the 11** series suddenly massively cheaper quite the opposite I’d guess.

As for the XBox One X, we’ve recently bought one for my son and having sat and watched him on it for hours (through him hogging the TV rather than anything else) I must say I’m very impressed by it, PubG is a stuttering mess but everything else seems to romp along just fine with stunning visuals, he’s currently into Sea of Thieves and whilst I’d argue my 1080ti based rig @ 4K has a slight edge when comparing the two formats it’s no where near an improvement enough to warrant the massive cost difference.
If anything it just underlines to me what a more sensible option the One X is if you merely want to play games at 4K.

Most people can do basic pc functionality via a tablet or smartphone these days never mind a laptop so if your really after a good gaming experience without breaking the bank then 4K consoles are the future at the moment.
I still prefer my pc as I can’t get along with game pads, if Microsoft or Sony implement keyboard & mouse support in games then I can see my rig being my last for gaming.

A shame ultimately but when your hobby no longer represents value for money and an alternative is delivering 90% of the experience (including a 4K screen) at less than the cost of a graphics card needed for 4K then it becomes a no brainier for the vast majority.

Still, even if one is playing at 60/120/144fps max settings, the games on PC are more or less a joke. Glorified console ports. PC Master Race, what a joke. So many go on like todays PC games are some sort of new groundbreaking universe. They’re not.

Even the history Quake has had, the current game is developed from a console engine that is buggy as hell. What does that say for the so called PC Master Race, eh? Most games are so sloppy now it’s unbelievable.

Aye, plus bug ridden to hell too. I just don't see value in cards that cost over £300. I would see the point if these £500/600 cards were pushing the boundaries of gaming, but as you stated, unfortunately they are not.

If there was a clear night and day difference and devs/publishers were putting in the effort to distinguish each version, then i'd buy a card that justified the higher price tag. But in reality, they're never going to do it. It's all about perceived value. Give me something brilliant and i'll bite, treat me with contempt by releasing poor ports, etc, and you'll receive the middle finger.

People buying these £600+ cards is just for bragging rights. And for what, just to play some **** souped up console port that's probably poorly optimised and is mediocre crap in terms of gameplay.

Thanks, but no thanks.
